Be astonished at the Museum of Senses Bucharest

The first museums in the world, like the Vatican Museum, were founded in the 16th century. In Romania, the first museum, the Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, was opened for the public in the year 1819, only 24 years after the Louvre Museum. But the museums have a way to adapt and reinvent themselves. Quite famous all around the world, the museums of illusions and senses are something one should surely visit and be prepared to be astonished by different exhibits. One can find such a museum – the Museum of Senses in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

The museum

Opened in January 2018, the Museum of Senses in Bucharest has the same creators as the museum with the same theme in Prague. One will experience challenges, both for the body and mind, observe and feel and be transported in a mind-blowing world where the optical illusions make the impossible possible.

The 12 rooms

About 40 exhibits are placed in 12 rooms, and one will enjoy the journey through these spaces entering through a dark tunnel. There are many famous exhibits. One you may already know is the “Head on a platter” exhibit, where with the help of an optical illusion, you may see your partners or another visitors head on a plate placed on a table. Another famous exhibit is the “Changing faces hedge”. A partner is recommended, as you will see how your partner's eyes or smile will fit you. I am sure the “Inverted Room” will challenge your senses, and if this is not satisfying enough, the “Infinity Room” will surely do. All these exhibits are truly fascinating, but my favorite one is the “Kaleidoscope”. I am almost sure you had one as a child. It was one of my favorite toys growing up too. The “Kaleidoscope” from the Museum of Senses will create a work of art with your face, and the best part is - you can take a photo as a souvenir to remember these amazing experiences.

Our senses

We, humans, have five senses, right? Hearing, sight, smell, touch, and taste. Otherwise, why would the expression 'sixth sense' even exist? So, the humans must have five senses. Not according to all researchers. Whereas all researchers agree that these are our basic human senses, they couldn’t agree on the exact number of senses, and in their opinion, we have somewhere between nine and twenty senses. Basically, they added some more like hunger, thirst, thermoception (the way we perceive the ambient temperature) or the sense of time. 

The museum was based on this principle, and once there, all of your senses will be put in use, and the visit will make one feel their senses as strongly as possible. So, be prepared to be astonished at the Museum of Senses Bucharest, as I am sure one will not only have a great time here but also visit it more than once.
