Have you ever heard of Gandia Shore? Yes, as you may be thinking, it is the Spanish version of the famous reality show Jersey Shore and it takes place in the popular city of Gandia. Gandia is a beautiful town (and one of the largest coastal towns in Spain) and municipality in the Valencian Community, located on the Costa del Azahar, 65 kilometres south of Valencia and 110 km north of Alicante. The city is located in a unique landscape between the mountains inland and the Mediterranean Sea. An extensive strip of sand that is almost five kilometres long runs the length of the coast, providing its visitors with a wide range of fantastic, wide and golden sandy beaches and making the city the perfect destination for a summer holiday.
But Gandia is not just about beaches and parties, it also has a glorious past, as can be appreciated in its historical background when it was once a ducal city - the mark of Duke Juan de Borja remains on the important buildings like the Ducal Palace, the Collegiate Church and the Old University. Its parties, its festivals, its beaches, and its cuisine are some of the most appealing attractions Gandia offers, and in this story, I am going to tell you about some of them.
Gandia is separated into two parts: Gandia City and Gandia Playa (Gandia Beach). Its old town has been the beating heart of Gandia since it was an important commercial and cultural centre during the 15th and 16th centuries. The city is best known for the Borgia family as I previously mentioned, who were an infamous prominent noble family during the Renaissance. Thanks to this family, visitors can find fantastic examples of Spain’s history monuments, most notably the Ducal Palace and Gandia Cathedral. Another interesting and nice part of Gandia city is Passeig de les Germanies, a tree-lined promenade with fountains and benches, which reminds me of the one in Alicante (one** **of the greatestest festivals in Alicante is going to take place very soon in June and I don't want to miss it).
Gandia Playa is a tourist resort area, which is basically made up of apartment complexes for the summer boom. The city has 73.829 people which triple in summer, and offers 6 kilometres of beautiful 'blue flag' beaches. This is also the place where most of the nightclubs and disco bars are located. If you are seeking amazing outdoors parties and beautiful beaches, Gandia is your perfect destination. Check the places below to find cool hotel resorts and discos by Gandia's beach.
Regarding Gandia’s cuisine, Valencians have a devotion to rice and eat it in all its forms and varieties, but in Gandia, there is a typical dish of the region called fideuà, in which noodles substitute for rice and are cooked with shellfish and fish. Don't miss this delicious dish which I like a lot, as well as cool beaches and the best party by the shore of Gandía.
