Beachy Head - End of the World

Located in East Sussex, on the South-East coast of England, the chalk headland known as Beachy Head is often called 'The End of the World'. Looking out from these towering cliffs over the sea, it's easy to see why it was given this name!

At 162 metres high, it's the tallest chalk cliff in the UK, and has been standing there for more than 80 million years. These cliffs look very similar the the famous White Cliffs of Dover, but due to their lack of development and natural erosion patterns, they are much more secluded and less controlled. Although there have been several landslides and large erosion events in the last years, it's relatively rare!

Long uninterrupted views...

The view in the photo above is the Seven Sisters (called for the seven rolling peaks of the cliffs) and they sit right next to Beachy Head. As you can see in this photo, the views are incredible, and you can see not just all the way down this coastline, with very few man-made structures in the way, but also far out to sea.

These cliffs are 'movie famous' and were included in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as well as Atonement.

These white cliffs with soft green grass are a fantastic place to walk, with the remoteness and lack of development being a distinct plus point for many keen wilderness seekers. There is also fairly conveniently placed pubs and hotels all down this coastline, so you can walk more than 100 km down the coast and stop at the pubs and hotels or camp. There is even a running event across the cliffs in late OCtober every year, with 10 km, half-marathon and full marathon distances available.
