Near the fourth largest city in **Slovenia – Celje, where you can visit the magnificent medieval Celje Castle, lies a small and charming town called Žalec. There, the first beer fountain in the world was built, offering various types and tastes of delicious beers. The new beer fountain **stands in the centre of Žalec, in the middle of a green park and was officially opened in September 2016. The town of Žalec was chosen as the location of the beer fountain, as it is located in the Lower Savinja Valley, the centre of hop growing in Slovenia. Since our country is also the fifth largest producer of the hops in the world, that makes it a great location for the world’s first beer fountain.

How does it work?

You can taste *six different kinds *of beer at the Beer Fountain Green Gold. All you have to do is to buy a glass that has an automatic chip on the bottom and put it under one of the taps in the beer **fountain. The tap will detect the chip and start pouring you the chosen beer by itself. For the price of eight euros, you will be able to pour 6-times one decilitre of beer from the desired tap. What is better than sitting on a bench in the park, right by the beer fountain, enjoying your drink and when you are done, you can refill your glass or take it home as a souvenir.

If you are a fan of chatting while sitting in cafes and bars, then *Mestni Vrt Žalec *is a great place where you can relax while enjoying the various offer of bottled and craft beers, a lot of them produced by well-known Slovenian breweries.
