Best bars in Cáceres

I have previously written about history in Cáceres, my home city, as well as some good restaurants in Cáceres, but there are also some great bars and places to party in this small but student-heavy city. Although the population is less than 100,000 people, there are at least 10,000 students, so it is really quite a young and energetic city for its size. I wanted to highlight some of my best chill-out spots, places to drink and dance, as well as a fun karaoke place as well.

El Corral de las Cigüeñas - relaxed walled garden

I love this bar because it is **right in the heart of the old town,** and is the ideal place to feel that sense of history and the past, whilst being in a modern and fun bar. They have a fantastic wine selection and the drinks are normal prices (which for Cáceres means cheap), despite its premium location. This bar can be a little difficult to find, as it is sort of round a small corner, and there are very few signs in Cáceres to advertise the amazing things we have here. For many people, the real joy of El Corral is the fact that you can often find live music, and their website shows the full schedule of performers that are coming. The stage is tiny, and the walled enclosure is not particularly big either, so any gig here is fairly intimate by definition.

La Divina Comedia - cocktails and shots

Now, this is one of those bars that is really quite unique and a little strange, and because of this, I love it. Inside it feels like a cave, and the dark little corners are the perfect place to relax with friends and chat and drink. The real pull of the place (for many of the less economically gifted students in Cáceres) is the fact that they offer a shot tray, with eight shots for five euros. And when I say shots, they are like little glasses (way bigger than a normal shot). And so it is a great place to have a few shots and have fun with friends. If you want to get among the young students in Cáceres, this is the place to come to for sure.

Guateque - Karaoke until the morning

This bar is all about fun - whether it is their near constant fancy dress competitions, or the karaoke nights most weeks, Guateque is a great bar to come to just have fun. It is not really modern or particularly well located, but get past those two down-sides and you will find a place that is made for energy, excitement and letting loose! It is normally completely packed in this bar, and so finding some breathing space might be the only challenge you will face. One of my favourite things about this particular karaoke bar is that you really do not need to be too brave to get up and sing. The crowd here is always so so supportive and warm that you will not be having second thoughts for a moment.
