Barceloneta is not explicitly known for its good restaurants in Barcelona – especially for vegans it might seem a bit difficult on the first impression. You’ll rather find a lot of fish restaurants, that are quite overpriced, as Barceloneta is one of the most touristic areas in town. But nonetheless, you can even here find some real gems regarding plant based cuisine. In case you’re spending a day at the beach and feel like eating something vegan, I picked out three amazing restaurants, that I’d name as the best vegan places in Barceloneta – hence you can enjoy a day at the beach without starving.
The Green Spot is one of those perfect places to go to on your first date. Or any other date or special occasion. The restaurant looks very stylish and fancy, but cosy and warm at the same time with a lot of wood, white and grey, plants and indirect light. The Green Spot is fully vegetarian and also holds a lot of events with live music or even organizes private yoga sessions. But it’s not only the atmosphere of this place that makes it so popular – the food is super exquisite, colourful, surprising and full of taste. The menu is very diverse and it’s incredibly hard to decide between the big selection of incredible dishes. Our vegetarian friends will be spoiled for instance with black pizza with activated carbon, pumpkin, caramelized shallots, goat cheese and pistachio or spätzle with raclette cheese and onions, while the vegans can enjoy spelt spaghetti with pumpkin, leek and truffles or a kohlrabi carpaccio with spirulina, pistachio and tamarind vinaigrette – just to give a small insight into the culinary variety of this place. My tip is to book a table in advance to make sure you don’t have to wait.
Bacoa is a fast food burger place – but one of those stylish ones with a cool branding, industrial interior design and excellent artisan burgers with organic ingredients. Bacoa is a very hip burger bar spread all over Barcelona. And although they do serve beef and chicken burgers, they also offer vegan and vegetarian burgers and therefore allow us herbivores enjoy good quality junk food after a night out or at any other time of the day. The "roast beet", with a beetroot and quinoa patty, home-made barbecue sauce, grilled beetroot and avocado or the "gran vegano" with crispy chickpea and spinach patty, tomato chutney and whipped avocado makes your mouth water by only smelling it. As sides, you don’t only have french fries, but also patatas bravas, rustic potato wedges or a fresh salad – all with home-made sauces.
BarCeloneta Sangría Bar is the only fully vegan tapas bar in Barcelona. I’ve never seen such a big and delightful selection of purely plant based tapas, traditionally Spanish and innovative at once, using only local and natural ingredients. You can even get a vegan shrimp cocktail here – for me personally it felt a little weird to eat something, that’s so close to the original, but whoever used to like shrimps back in their carnivore days will surely like it! Besides the tapas you also have veggie burgers, raw food and an exclusive paella with vegan seafood! The BarCeloneta Sangría Bar is also famous for its original sangrías – all home-made out of own recipes with fine organic wines, the best fruits and spices. Choose between classic red sangrías with notes of sherry or vermouth, refreshing rose sangrías or unique versions of cava sangrías with delicate flowers such as roses and elderflower. Cheers!
If you’re visiting Barcelona, you are surely coming also to enjoy the beach and to party –in both cases you might end up in Barceloneta. In this case I hope I could have helped you in finding some delicious plant based options in one of the best vegan places in Barceloneta. And if that doesn’t satisfy you yet, you will certainly find another of my reviewed restaurants more appealing in other districts like Eixample, El Raval, El Born and Grácia.
