White giant on the island shore

On the Hiiumaa Island stands a large and proud white giant – Kõpu Lighthouse. This is not an ordinary lighthouse. It has been standing there for 500 years. In the past, it's purpose was to guide the merchant ships in the Hanseatic League, so that none of them would be lost in the Baltic Sea. Today, this** highest lighthouse in the Baltic, situated 102 metres above sea level, is open for visitors. You can visit it every day from 10 am to 8 pm and for the price of 3 euros, you can admire the view of Hiiumaa from it's highest point. You'll never find a lighthouse in the world like **Kõpu.

Small capital by the sea

Kärdla is the most important and actually the only city on Hiiumaa Island. It is usually described as the greenest city, where the nature rules and there is no tall glass buildings. The easiest way to explore this capital is by renting a bike. This city is only 4.5 square kilometers big, and everything is so close that you don't even have to use a map to get somewhere. You can start exploring the city at the Kärdla Marina that was built in 1849. This marina was destroyed in 1944, during World War II, but it has been restored, and now yachts and ships can anchor there again. Next stop can be the Kärdla's old** Power Plant that stands over the shores of the Nuutri river. This plant was shut down in 1977 but it is still a fascinating sight to observe from its outside. After that, you can just walk or ride your bike through this little town. Don't forget to look around and smile to the happy people of Hiiumaa**.
