Thessaloniki has something for everyone and a visit there will definitely steal your heart! If you’re looking for info as well as for suggestions on what to do and how to spend a day in Thessaloniki as a local would, go ahead and have a look at my previous articles. The upper town, the castles, the vast sea view, the food, the nightlife, the relaxed lifestyle and of course, its people will no doubt guarantee a wonderful and unforgettable experience upon your visit to the Greek co-capital!
The seaside view mentioned above, is, in fact, one of the attributes that make the city unique upon visiting. Of course, this view gets even better while enjoyed and appreciated along with a refreshing iced coffee. As I’ve previously mentioned, the cold coffee is an essential part of the greek culture, and daily life, hence a “greek coffee experience by the water/beach” should definitely not be missed, while traveling in Greece. There are millions and millions of places to get a decent coffee while in Thessaloniki, however, the ones that follow will no doubt offer you a unique experience and of course, a magical view of the city’s seaside. Ready to explore them all?!
If you’ve already been to Thessaloniki, you probably heard of this bar. It’s, in fact, one of Thessaloniki’s “classics”, since it is one of the city’s oldest and most historic cafes. It’s located right on the waterfront of the Thermaikos Gulf, after which it was named. The view is fantastic and the breeze from the sea gives you a sense of free spirit and serenity! Refreshing coffees, juices, cocktails, as well as a selection of drinks are served during the whole day, while the cozy decoration of its interior travels you instantly back in time!
At KitchenBar you can enjoy a coffee, a drink or a meal with countless choices from Greek to ethnic cuisine while admiring the view of the whole Thessaloniki! It’s in fact, a place for every hour of the day and the food is incredibly tasty! It’s located right on the city’s port, an area worth promenading at, while in Thessaloniki. In addition, the port’s warehouses can be found at a walking distance. Just pass by and if you’re lucky enough there will be some really interesting photo-or art exhibition. Its outstanding views of Thermaikos Gulf, as well as the Olympus massif in the far distance, make the harbour a place worth experiencing while in Thessaloniki.
It’s best to go for lunch and dine in the outdoor area. Located on the city’s waterfront promenade, it is easily accessible on foot or by public transport; it is a great place to walk, ride a bike or skate in the heart of the city. Of course, there are no vehicles allowed on the walkway, which gives you the feeling that it’s kinda far from the city’s noises and traffic, even if in reality it’s not. While sipping your coffee in here, you’ll be so close to the water you’ll likely see beautiful birds with long bills dry out in the afternoon sun a meter from your table.
