Costa del Sol - where to eat in Fuengirola

Fuengirola was little more than a small fishing village back in the 1960s, before Spain and the Costa del Sol started to become one of the main European summer destinations. Due to the high affluence of travellers who come visit the region year after year, this charming coastal town not too far from Málaga has experienced unbelievable growth in the last decades!

Fuengirola has now become a tourist paradise, a place able to satisfy all kinds of people while remaining authentic and not too overcrowded. It has also become a gastronomic wonderland, offering the sporadic traveller the chance to enjoy a vast variety of food, ranging from Asian to Lebanese and South American cuisine. I have already written in previous articles about the Fuengirola nightlife and its beer festival, and I think it's time now for me to tell you about the perfect gastronomic day in Fuengirola -an experience your stomach shall never forget: I'll take you around the city from morning till night time, telling you about my favourite places to enjoy each meal in the city!

Breakfast at El Costa del Sol

El Costa del Sol is one of the most famous places in town. Right next to the main square where the church is at, it is a beautiful café decorated in a modern style that might make you think of other typical cafés in Barcelona or Madrid. It is the ideal place to have breakfast in Fuengirola because they serve the best churros I have ever had in my entire life! For 40 cents a piece (I know it's hard to believe)! But hang in there, because it doesn't stop with that. They also serve their world-famous hot chocolate (homemade), the perfect drink to dip your churros in. Other than that, of course, you can have your typical Spanish toasts with jamón, olive oil and tomato. Everything here is fantastic.

Lunch at Lizarrán

Above you can see a picture of my girlfriend and me having lunch at Lizarrán haha! If you've never heard about this place, it's one of my personal favourites. Lizarrán is a famous chain with restaurants all over Spain. It's got a very special formula that has become very successful: clients don't even have to chose anything to eat, as servers are constantly walking around with plates full of deliciously amazing pintxos (that's basically what we call food that has been pierced with a wooden stick). If you see something you like, you just have to take it from the server's plate, and at the end of your meal they will count the wooden sticks on your table to determine the price of your lunch. It's a very original system and Lizarrán has a great variety of food. You just have to sit there and be surprised by the food you see coming, letting your eyes get tempted by all sorts of marvelous pintxos that will make you salivate. All of that means an amazing culinary experience!

Dinner at the Purple Moon

Oops, I forgot to take a picture of this one sorry! But let me describe the place for you a little so you can imagine it! The Purple Moon is a beautifully illuminated lebanese restaurant with a terrace right in front of the beach in Fuengirola. I really like this place because it offers all customers a 30-Euro menu for two people, which consists of a plate with warm starters, another plate with cold starters and a main dish of great Lebanese lamb and beef, all of that comes with Lebanese bread and a bottle of wine (for 15-Euros each!). I don't know how you imagine all of that, but I'll tell you the quantities are super generous. You'll most probably need to rest for a while after it all! But that's no problem is it? When you have the sea in front of you... and you can order a nice mint-and-melon shisha in a great Lebanese terrace...
