Crystal-clear water and fresh paella in Jávea

My previous article was about La GranadelIa in Jávea. I had an amazing time there with my cousin and some friends - it was definitively one of the nicest bays I have ever been (the same type of water you find in Ibiza or Formentera) and I did not expect to see so many fish. We stopped at a viewpoint that is easy to spot on the road down to the cove, and the views there really blew my mind. See the pictures bellow for a better idea of what the place looks like.

We also had a very good paella, called "Paella del Señoret" which is typical of this place, in a restaurant next to the bay. The reason it's called that is because it is cooked with lots of fresh seafood and fish from the sea, it is already peeled, and so the "señorito" (in English its 'little lord') does not get dirty fingers when eating and does not need to peel the seafood.

Cala de Ambolo

If you are looking for a very natural, isolated and wild location with rocks to jump in the water and to explore, then Cala de Ambolo is probably the place for you. The way to access this bay is by going down rock stairs cut into one of the many cliffs that surround the cove, and that give it a unique, wild look. Cala de Ambolo is a nudist bay that doesn’t have lifeguards, nor restaurants, bars or board walks, so you need to be responsible and careful because it can be dangerous. It is recommended to take good shoes to walk for 10-15 minutes to get there, as well as to walk over the loose stones comfortably. This stunning cove is also famous for its blue, crystalline water and its green surroundings, and it is a great place for snorkeling, since once you get in the water you start seeing many different types of fish and plants. It is definitely my kind of place, away from people and in pure, wild nature.

Playa el Arenal

This beach is probably the best known by people in Javea, since it is the only sandy one in the area and the most accessible. Its golden sand is really fine and the water is blue, clean and quiet – it’s a nice sandy bay in the middle of the coast of Javea, where you can swim and dive in a relaxed way since it’s not very deep. For this reason, it is probably a very good safe place for families and kids, although it can be quite busy in August. The beach runs for 450m and offers a wide range of different services, ranging from aquatic activities to different types of restaurants, shops, and bars as well as a long board walk. The thing I recommend the most to enjoy this beach (especially if you’re bringing kids with you) is to hire a pedalo with slides because it’s a fun way to spend time and also because you can find plenty of these in El Arenal.

The area of Jávea, in Alicante, has some of the most beautiful, wild, unspoiled places on the Mediterranean sea and it won't disappoint you. I did not expect them to be that full of life, colours and light - It doesn't really matter the season, it's always the perfect time to go and disconnect from cities.
