You have just planned to spend a week of holiday in the Spanish capital and more or less you’re now preparing your itinari-must-do agenda. You already have a lot of things and activities in mind however, since you’re spending a full week in Spain you‘re open to some local’s suggestions. You have decided that once you arrive you’ll rent a car so that it’ll be easier for you to move around and discover more and more places. And now you’re wondering… where could you go for a daytrip starting from Madrid? What are your “around” and worth-visiting options that do not require a full day driving to be reached? I know that you’re probably hoping that I’ll somehow suggest a hidden beach around Madrid but unfortunately (for me and for you) there’s no such a thing… But there a few interesting alternatives!!! You wanna find out?!

Suggestions!

Suggestion number 1. A day trip to Toledo! Only a few minutes away from Madrid and super easily accessible even by public transportation, Toledo is definitely a city worth seeing! Toledo is the heart and soul of Spain. This monumental ancient city is a captivating UNESCO World Heritage Site. Behind its daunting medieval walls, in a labyrinth of winding pedestrian streets, are some of most important historical landmarks in the country! It offers a variety of cultural activities and the city’s architecture will blow your mind!

Suggestion number 2. A day trip to Segovia! Segovia is one of the most beautiful cities that I have visited so far in Spain. It’s only 1hour far from Madrid, and like Toledo, it’s super easily accessible with the public transportation! It can easily be a day trip, starting from Madrid or the surrounding cities! Segovia overflows with culture and history, to the point that a monumental Roman aqueduct actually runs through the middle of the city. There are multiple of museums, medieval churches and of course bars that guarantee you an amazing tapas experience!

Suggestion number 3. A day trip to the city of Avila! Ávila, a World Heritage monument, is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Spain. Its world famous walls stand guard over the centuries-old artistic and cultural heritage found inside. Walking along its narrow, winding streets, one easily sees vestiges from its past… As a visitor curious to see what modern Ávila is like inside, you should take your time in doing so if they really want to enjoy the streets, plazas, nooks and crannies. You won’t be disappointed while wandering around the Paseo del Rastro where a view of the Valle de Amblés may be had from the superbly preserved mirador (viewpoint)...

Suggestion number 4. A day trip to the old city of Sa[lamanca!](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/salamanca-the-city-of-thought-and-knowledge-94k6) Salamanca is an ancient university town situated in the west of Spain in the Autonomous Community of Castilla and León. The city of Salamanca was registered as “Historic Site” in 1951, the highest legal protection at the national level. Salamanca has a wealth of history, but it is also modern, fun and dynamic. The student population takes care of giving life and atmosphere to this city 24 hours a day. As a result, the city welcomes the lively people and offer a variety of bars, activities and sightseeing options, and only just one hour far from the Spanish capital, Madrid!

Personally, If I didn't have much time in my itinerary and I had to choose one of those day trips that guarantees a weekend getaway from the city’s reality, I’d say Toledo…! But of course that’s just a personal choice!

!... all of those cities are just magic… so take some time to discover them and enjoy!
