The Bouillon Julien is not just another restaurant in Paris. It is an institution. Situated close to the Grands Boulevards and its theaters, this place is one of the most popular Parisian brasseries. If you are looking for a place to have a great meal in an incredible space, then you can’t get wrong with this restaurant. The Bouillon Julien is a real gem. Opened in 1906 and listed as a historical monument since 1997, the restaurant is decorated in the amazing Art Nouveau style. But this is not all. This brasserie also serves inexpensive but more than delicious traditional French food.

History

The Bouillon Julien is a brasserie opened in 1906, in the building designed by Edouard Fournier, a French architect. The interior decoration of this restaurant is a work of many great artists and artisans such as Armand Segaud, Louis Trézel and Hippolyte Boulanger. It is impressive to have lunch in a restaurant decorated with huge mirrors and beautiful panels representing peacocks and nymphs. The floor is embellished with the patterns of geraniums and daisies, while the stained glass ceiling, made in a famous glass atelier of Georges Guenne, brings the zenithal light nicely into the restaurant. Listed as a historical monument since 1997, the Bouillon Julien was entirely renovated in 2018 by John Whelan, a British designer.

Food

The Bouillon Julien is known as a place that serves inexpensive, but delicious and good quality traditional French food. Open every day non-stop from noon until midnight, this restaurant offers a very special traditional French dish made of a calf's head and called - “Tete de veau”. But if you are looking for something less original to eat, then you can order simply fish and chips or even a nice steak in mustard sauce. And after the main meal, you should definitely order a plate of French cheeses, and if still hungry, get yourself for a dessert, a nice and tasty rice pudding with salted butter caramel. The Bouillon Julien is a feast for your eyes and also palette.

Movies

Did you know that this delicious brasserie in Paris was a favorite place of many famous French people? Edith Piaf, a French singer, was a regular guest here and she would always have lunch or dinner at table number 24. For that reason, several scenes from “La vie en rose”, a French biographical movie about the life of Edith Piaf, directed by Olivier Dahan and featuring Marion Cotillard, were shot in this restaurant. In 2016, the Bouillon Julien was also used as a set for “Chocolat”, a French drama movie directed by Roschdy Zem and featuring Omar Sy and James Thiérrée.
