Endangered wetlands of Bardača Nature Park

In the top northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to the borderline with Croatia, a unique nature reserve and biodiversity treasure is hidden - Bardača Nature Park. This is a site of 11 lakes, including colonies of protected birds, marshes and aquatic flora and fauna.

Bardača is a lake as well as marshes complex in the municipality of Srbac. It reposes about 30 kilometres from the beautiful Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bardača wetland area, located between the right bank of Sava River and the left bank of the river Vrbas, has been declared as a Ramsar site. Hence, it is on the List of Wetlands of International Importance, especially for providing waterfowl habitat.

Biodiversity of Bardača is one of the most important ecological values. The whole nature park has a very sensitive and important ecosystem. Area of about 670 acres is home to over 100 species of birds.

Unlike Hutovo Blato in Herzegovina, Barača complex is open for fishing and hunting. Activities such as boat tours with birds-watching and photo-safaris can be organized. The place is also being developed as a recreational area with swimming and water activities. Additionally, there are camping possibilities on the site.
