Chisinau has plenty of parks that differ from each other but, at the same time, are beautiful and cozy. If you want to walk near the lake, you can visit Valea Morilor Park, but if you want to admire the monuments and different fountains, you will surely go to the Central Park, the oldest one in Moldova. However, there is a Botanical Garden that combines all of those wishes. There, you not only can enjoy the beautiful lakes but also learn something new about flora and fauna of Moldova. It is located close to the Chisinau Gateways, on the outskirts of the city. The best time of the year to visit the Botanical Garden is May since you can enjoy the blossoming of Japanese sakura.

The scientific research institution

The garden was founded in 1950 and was located in the Buiucani district. In 1964, it was moved to the Botanica district because it had a bigger territory for all the things that were planned to be made. In 1973, the Botanical Garden was officially opened, and two years later, the government gave it the status of a scientific research institution of the Academy of Sciences of the Moldavian SSR. The area of the garden is huge – almost 104 hectares, where you can find more than 10 000 species and varieties of plants that grow in the park. The Academy made a cascade of four accumulative lakes, that help the park to irrigate its vegetation. The best and most impressive things in the park are the blossoming of pink magnolia (end of April) and, of course, Japanese sakura (early May), that bring a bit of elegance to the flora of the garden.

A charming place to explore with family

When entering the garden, you immediately feel how charming this place is. Peaceful and quiet valleys, families with children, ducks and swans in the lakes – everything here is made for the comfortable time spending with the closest ones. We usually come here to relax and distract from everyday routine. The Botanical Garden used to be crowded mainly on weekends and holidays, however nowadays it is visited a lot even during the working days. The park is very picturesque and diverse, but it is not only about the variety of plant species (including the exotic ones), but also in the well-thought-out planning of the park. This makes you feel travelling around the worlds while being in one park only.

Experience an unforgettable trip

You can get to the Botanical Garden by the public transport or taxi – there are the only choices. If you visit Chisinau for the first time, I would recommend you to go there by trolleybus and experience not only interesting views but also the city transport atmosphere. Note that the entrance to the garden is not free of charge – the fee starts from 5 lei (about 20-30 euro cents). In the proximity of the park, you can also find the Chisinau Zoo, and coming back home – have a look at the shopping centers in the Botanica district. So, don’t miss the beautiful nature of the park, especially if you come to Chisinau in spring. You will have the possibility to make amazing photos near the sakura and have an unforgettable trip to the truly Moldavian beauty of nature.
