First, some basics: Concepción is the capital of the Bio-Bio region of Chile, and it is located 6 hours away from Santiago de Chile. It is part of the "Greater Concepción," a conurbation of cities with many touristic attractions. To be clear, I will take you through some must-sees of the actual city. Fun fact: Concepción is one of the biggest cities of Chile, as such is a vivid and energetic place; there are not only beautiful places to see but also an amazing vibe, everyone says it feels like home!
The park is a green hotspot of the city! Also, it is definitely a must-see if you are in Concepción. The place is big and full of trees and plants, one of the most relaxing places in town. As any good park, it does not have only trees, but also offers many activities: it has a sports area, various expositions, playgrounds, among many others. If you want to learn about the history of the city and Chile, you should visit the "Gallery of the History of Concepción." Do you feel like enjoying some fresh air, or maybe go for a romantic stroll? This is the place for you!
The square is located in the university district, nearby the University of Concepcion Arch, so logically a lot of people hang out there. It has a beautiful fountain and many restaurants around. While you are there, look at the buildings nearby, the architecture is beautiful and reminds you of older times. The place has an amazing "Bohemian Vibe" to it, enhanced by street musicians and many students who go there to meet every day.
Some say the University of Concepción is the heart of the city. Also, it is one of the most traditional and prestigious in the country. Some say everything happens on the campus, which is a very nice place to visit. It has a beautiful infrastructure, wide green areas, and even an artificial lagoon. One of the icons of the campus is the "Campanil" (bell tower or clock tower), a beloved symbol not only of the University but also of the city.
I highly recommend you visit the Pinacotheca of the university; it is home to one of the biggest collections of traditional Chilean paintings. It also features important artwork of international artists. If you like contemporary art or are curious about Chilean art, you can not miss it. While you are there, I dare you to find the mural "Presencia de America Latina" by the Mexican artist Jorge Gonzalez Camarena.
Have you ever seen a "Tuna" perform? A tuna is a group of students who serenade wearing traditional clothes while playing different instruments. There are many "Tuna" groups around the world; in Chile, some of the best-known are the ones from Concepción. The tuna members are usually very passionate about their music and see each other as family. Watching a tuna perform is an amazing experience, the music is beautiful, their passion is palpable! There are a lot of "Tunas" in Concepción. If you have the chance, I recommend you listen to the Tu[na Femenina UdeC](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/) (Feminine Tuna of the University of Concepción), they are one of the best tunas in town!
Do you feel like going to the beach? I recommend you visit Ramuntcho. The beach is not in Concepción but super close, yet it feels so different. The beach is stunning, and its waters are cold; it is the perfect place to refresh in summer! This is a local recommendation, and the beach is concurred but not as famous as others in Chile. If you like summer and sand, definitely take a break from the city and relax in Ramuntcho. You will not be disappointed!
People say when you visit Concepción, you feel home. The Penquistas are warm-hearted people who gladly welcome you to the city. Even though the city is big, it feels small in the best possible way. Visit Concepción: a place you will always keep in your heart.
