Exploring miniatures of Bulgaria in Veliko Tarnovo

If you are a fan of small, elegant places where you see a lot of things at once, such as the museum of miniatures in Minsk or the mini-Hungary model park in Szarvas, today's digital trip is just the one for you. Bulgaria is not a big country, but there are a lot of things to see, and you cannot see everything in one day. But exploring the most famous Bulgarian monuments in one day only is possible, if you just go to the town of Veliko Tarnovo, in northern Bulgaria, and visit the park of miniatures.

The park

The park is located in the town's suburbs. Its official full name is “Tarnovgrad – the spirit of millennial Bulgaria”. Tarnovgrad was the old name of Veliko Tarnovo, so in this way, the history of the town is being preserved. The name of the park refers to the historical “millennial” past of Bulgaria and its role in the future world. The complex is 13 decares big and was opened in September 2017. It includes more than 80 miniature buildings and monuments. There are facilities for access for people with motor disabilities, as well as separate parking for all visitors to the park. On the ground, there is free Wi-Fi. The park is open every day of the year – from April to September from 9 am to 7:30 pm and from October to March from 9 am to 6 pm. The entry fee for children, seniors and students is 5 Bulgarian levs (around 2,50 euros) and 5 euros for adults.

The miniatures

The miniatures are created with the help of photo-metric footage. The material used is PVC, which can withstand temperatures from -30 to +45 grad Celsius. This means that the park could be visited all year long, no matter the weather. The scale of the objects in the park is 1:25 in comparison to their actual size. In the complex, you can see buildings such as the Bulgarian Parliament, the Palace in Balchik, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, the Rila monastery – some of the national symbols of the country. You can also see monuments of national history, among which the amphitheater in Plovdiv and the ancient ruins in Pliska. Moreover, in the park, there are special miniatures dedicated to Bulgaria's industrial and technological progress, such as trains, airports and harbors. An interesting fact about the park is that every object is situated according to its real geographical location in the country so you can see the most important monuments and buildings in every part of Bulgaria.
