It is not a secret that Argentina is a large country with different climate regions and plenty of natural resources. It is, indeed, the perfect destination for both wild adventurers and for those who are into chilling nature. In the very north of the country, more than 4300 km away from the southernmost city in the world, at the borders with Brazil and Paraguay, you can find Misiones. A beautiful province, where travelers will quickly discover picturesque landscapes, wild animals, exotic plants, cool people, and the cherry on the top; the amazing Iguazú Falls, the largest series of waterfalls on the planet, chosen as one of New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2012.
Home of the “Yerba Mate,” the Argentine national beverage, Misiones offers dense wild vegetation, including orchids and ferns, and a vast number of species. Monkeys, parrots, and “Yaguaretés” (Jaguars) are just a small example of a large number of animals that share this sub-tropical rainforest ecosystem with tons of rare birds and exotic butterflies.
Iguazú National Park, located just a few kilometers away from the city of Puerto Iguazú and featured in the list of World Heritage places of UNESCO, is the spotlight, and it is home to the namesake iconic waterfalls. With more than twenty-seven hundred meters wide, Iguazú waterfalls will make visitors live the impressive and unique experience of contemplating a (probably) never seen amount of falling water that brings awareness of the immensity of the planet.
Different trekking paths lead visitors to the same destination, a dreamed balcony from where they have the opportunity to see a unique natural spectacle in the world — the "Garganta del Diablo" waterfall, which means Devil's throat. I strongly recommend to anyone to stand for a while at the "Garganta del diablo" balcony to contemplate the water falling. It is a simple yet exceptional and unforgettable experience. On the way, travelers will have the chance to discover different smaller yet impressive falls. Such examples are Floriano, Deodoro, Benjamín Constant, Unión, Escondido, Mitre, Belgrano, Rivadavia, Dos Mosqueteros, Tres Mosqueteros, San Martín, among other 260 more.
Along the trails mentioned above, you will have the chance to discover the jungle through all your senses; touching, seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and why not, breathing probably the purest air on the planet. Get in touch with a breathtaking nature. For those who are not into walking, there is an ecological train that takes tourists to the closest possible spot to the Garganta del Diablo. On the other hand, the most adventurous visitors can take a boat trip to almost the heart of the waterfalls, having a unique perspective of this natural phenomenon while showered by the typical fog.
From tasting Mate, our typical infusion, to contemplating gorgeous birds, butterflies, animals, and plants, visitors will definitely enjoy a visit in Misiones. If lucky enough, you will have the chance to take night walking tours through the jungle under the full-moon light, which is such an exclusive and delightful experience. Iguazú waterfalls and the park are indeed the perfect destinations for a wellness weekend break, and probably, a mandatory stopover when it comes to planning a trip around Argentina. Misiones in general and the Iguazù National Park, in particular, will take your adventurous spirit to the next level.
