Festival-ing in Barcelona

Since I have previously presented a few incredible (well, personal opinion here, might be subjective) nightlife options and suggestions, I am back with this page to talk about how awesome Barcelona is during summer too.

Electronic music lovers brace yourselves, Barcelona has some festival hidden aces ready to be played in its coasts during the summer… It's no wonder that Barcelona offers the best music festivals in Spain. From baroque to techno, people from all over the world fly to Barcelona to attend some of the most well-known and international's fame festivals.

It’s a popular alternative rock and dance festival that takes place in late spring/early summer of each year in the epic Parc del Forum. Awesome line ups, great artists, such as Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Orbital, The Pixies, The Cure, Pulp, and great indie sounds and acts, such as Warpaint, Chromeo, Tame Impala are being announced every year and people rush into buying their tickets as soon as possible. As a festival in general, Primavera attracts a quite international crowd, who later on enjoy the in-city’s activities and concerts that follow.

Oh yeah… that’s a big one! Sonar Festival has gained its impressive reputation as one of the world's leading experimental electronic music festivals (which is another way of saying it's a fantastic rave up).

Odd festival headliners, such as Chemical Brothers, Pet Shop Boys or Skrillex, are some of the names usually playing in this festival. Make sure to buy your ticket on time cause they usually sell out within the first week of their announcement!

Well, that’s my favourite one! Cruilla is the music fest with the broadest appeal in the city! Artists who have played over the years include Asian Dub Foundation, Robert Plant, Suede, Iggy & The Stooges, Damon Albarn, Cat Power, Gogol Bordello and M.I.A. As with Primavera Sound, the action takes place at the Parc del Forum, in easy reach from the city centre.

I’ve first heard about this festival while living in the Netherlands. Everyone has been waiting for the tickets to be released and everyone literally has been talking about it for days. I had the chance to experience it and yes, I admit it was awesome (a bit hardcore…but AWESOME. If you’re not used to the heavy electronic sounds you better choose one of the festivals described above).

So to get to the point, the last 3 years it’s also taking place in Barcelona. However what makes this festival special is the fact that it’s not only focused on electronic music, digital arts but also on sustainability and its raising of awareness among the audience, with new initiatives such as urine recycling and several ludic actions.
