Five parks to visit during the summer in Chisinau

Parks are essential parts of each city ecosystem. In parks, people relax, meet their friends, think about life, and spend a great time surrounded by the trees. There are a lot of parks to be discovered in Chisinau, and today I will tell you about the five most impressive parks to visit during the summer in Chisinau. You will be able to see the oldest park in Moldova, get inspired by the beautiful sakura, rest near the spring and even more exciting things. Let's find out more about them!

The oldest park of Moldova 

The oldest park in Moldova, created at the beginning of the 19th century, is the Public Park of Stefan cel Mare, commonly known as Pushkin Park or just the Central Park. The name was given in honor of the greatest ruler of our country - Stefan the Great and represents an excellent place to walk around and have a glass of tasty lemonade or ice-cream. Here, you can even get a closer look at our cultural and agricultural heritage! Along the whole park, you can note the monuments to the most significant writers of our country, and in the very middle of the park, you can view the statue of Alexander Pushkin - one of the first monuments of the famous writer. In addition, you can learn more about our flora by looking on the title tables near the trees, that will tell you more about each of them. Also, you can ride a bike in here, have an urban picnic, and get some rest near the beautiful fountains. 

Valea Morilor Park - the home of mammoths 

The locals generally refer to the Valea Morilor Park as Komsomolsky Lake. This park is not only a beautifully arranged place but also the former home of mammoths. In 2009, Moldavian archaeologists discovered the fragments of a mammoth skeleton at the bottom of an old lake in Valea Morilor Park! The park is also famous for the beautiful cascade stairs, that were recently renovated to the decent state. In addition, you can ride a bike, rollers, or skateboards in the park. Don't miss seeing the natural springs, that are located inside the park's forest. The best-known of them is called “Tamara’s Spring”, a place where the visitors can drink clean water and relax. 

Botanical Garden and beautiful sakura 

The Botanical Garden combines all that the tourists find interesting. In the garden, you can enjoy the beautiful lakes but also learn something new about flora and fauna of Moldova. The best time of the year to visit the Botanical Garden is spring because, then, you can enjoy the blossoming of Japanese sakura! Also there you will have the opportunity to feed the swans and ducks, but with the special, provided food - no chips and crackers! Don't forget to take a hat with you, because in summer, Botanical Garden is a place where you can get sunstroke. When entering the garden, you immediately feel how charming this place is. Locals usually come here to relax and distract a bit from everyday routine. In the garden, it's possible to ride a bike and make picnics with your friends and family. 

The Infinite Dendrarium Park 

Founded in 1973, the Dendrarium Park is like a collection of more than a 1000 types of trees. In the park, you can find some rare Moldovian wood species, for example, Ginkgo biloba, Pagoda tree, Metasequoia, Canadian tsuga, Douglas fir, yellow pine, etc. Dendrarium is taken under the protection of the state as a monument of the architecture, having unique and picturesque landscape and scientific importance at the same time. One of the most powerful feelings, that you can feel here, is the feeling of the infinity. This place is a favorite location for the locals to visit in their free time. You can feed the ducks, although you should remember to give them only bread. Other food is not welcomed, as it may irritate their tender digestive system. Summer is the best time to visit! Everywhere you go, you will see beautiful flowers and other bright plants. Here you can also meet many tourists in summer, on the sightseeing excursion through the city's oasis. Even the students of nearby schools and colleges come here to study for exams, seminars and even have a meeting. The entrance fee is 2 leis (0.10 euro) for scholars and students, and 4 leis (0.20 euro) for adults. There you can also have some excursions with the professional guides - they can cost from 10 (0.50 euro) to 15 leis (0.75 euro). 

Valea Trandafirilor Park

The Valea Trandafirilor Park or the Rose Valley is a garden, that is located in the Botanica District of Chisinau. The park stretches over an area of 145 hectares, including 9 hectares of water! There you can see three lakes. Two smaller ones are ideal for picnics, resting, thinking, while the bigger one is mostly used for boat tours. Valea Trandafirilor Park is a very romantic place to be, especially in summer. It was opened in early 1968, on a hillside, cultivated with roses, and paths around the water. During the Soviet times, Valea Trandafirilor was named "The City Culture and Rest Park" named in honor of Vladimir Lenin. Inside the park, you can also find restaurants, beaches, children's playgrounds, adventure park, and even some sports grounds. At the edge of the park, next to Trandafirilor Street, there is the Memorial of Chernobyl Victims.
