Apart from its delicious food, great nightlife, beautiful weather and elegant inhabitants, Barcelona is best known for the beautiful Gaudi and Gaudi-inspired buildings that line its streets.
You're likely familiar with Gaudí's masterworks (such as La Sagrada Familia) spotted in Barcelona, however I’m here with this page to extend your knowledge about probably the most famous & influential Spanish architect of all times!
Antoni Gaudí was an architect from Reus, Catalonia, Spain. He is said to be the best known practitioner of Catalan Modernism. His works have a highly individualized and distinctive style and are obviously influenced by his passions in life: architecture, nature, and religion.
Gaudí spent most of his life in Barcelona and the city boasts the largest concentration of his works in the world. His ideas shaped the way of thinking about architecture for a whole generation.
His work is an exceptional creative synthesis of several 19th-century artistic schools, such as the Arts and Crafts movement, Symbolism, Expressionism, and Rationalism, and is directly associated with the cultural apogee of Catalonia. He is also said to have presaged and influenced many forms and techniques of 20th-century Modernism.
His most famous work, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, is one of Europe’s most breathtaking spots, a must-see on any itinerary. Are you ready to discover the rest?
If you ever been to Barcelona I’m pretty sure that you already know and have admired those majestically beautiful buildings! If not, here is a list of them, get informed and make sure you’ll pay a visit once you get there!
