Goulash Disko Festival, a new delicacy on the Croatian festival scene

The Balkans have always been a home to overly happy, party people, and Croatia has been known for years as one of the most beautiful European holiday destinations. It was totally natural that these two things combined give us a result - the best summer festivals in Europe. Many of those festivals are celebrating their birthdays in the double digits this year, but one of the newest bravely stands out among the others. Goulash Disko Festival, a new delicacy on the Croatian festival scene, takes place in September on a small island of Vis, lost somewhere in the Adriatic Sea.

What is Goulash Disko Festival about?

Goulash Disko Festival came as an idealistic gathering that focuses on the music and loses the marketing part. The festival is entirely crowdsourced, sponsor-free and celebrates the independent spirit. The tropical and calming sound that plays all day long on this European tropical oasis, is experimental music that combines the Balkan vibes, reggae, nu cumbia, afro, drum and bass, etc. Six years ago, it was the first entirely crowdsourced festival in the world!

Unlike most of the other festivals, Goulash Disko Festival doesn’t aim at the expansion but more towards the integration in the local community of a small coastal town Komiza, on the island Vis, where it takes place. The peaceful turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, the smell of the surrounding pine forests and warm September sun intertwined with the salty breeze, create the perfect environment for the limited number of visitors from all over the world.

Tickets, accommodation, and directions

In order to join the global salad of chill vibes and sounds, you must hurry as there are only 1000 tickets available. As for the accommodation, there are the camping tickets available for seven days, in a temporary set camping site in the middle of the village Komiza. For those less adventurous, there are plenty of private accommodation options in the village, usually between 15 and 50 euros per night. You can easily reach the Vis Island from Split via year-around ferry and catamaran trips. From the town of Vis, where the boats stop, you can go by car, take a bus, or a taxi to Komiza.

Even though it’s relatively new, Goulash Disko Festival quickly gained an important role on the Croatian festival scene. It enjoys the reputation of the 5-days long legendary party, away from everyday stress, bringing the many corners of the world together and celebrating the shared love for music and freedom.
