Servia

Much of the country consists of peninsulas and islands in the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. It borders Albania, the Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. No less than 17 of those monuments are listed as World Heritage Sites. However, the many charming little islands, sandy beaches and picturesque whitewashed coastal towns are at least as much a reason to come for the millions of tourists that this Mediterranean country receives each year.

The capital of the region is Kozani, a city full of museums about the Greek folks or Macedonia, and even about the history of the nature in the region. The architecture and parks of the city are also quite impressive. The region is full of lakes that you can explore on a sunny day with the most famous ones the Kastoria lake and Ladon Lake. This last one is the biggest artificial lake that the country has. Additionally, the north of the region has some small mountains that are pleasing to walk through. During the winter the north of the region is covered in snow and ski stations are open to public.

Aliakmonas is the** longest river in Greece**, with a total length of **297 km.**

Its name comes from the a*ncient god of the rivers, A**liakmon **(Als-Thalassa = sea) and (akmon = anvil). *According to the ancient Greek mythology,* Aliakmon was the Son of Okeanos (Ocean) and Tithis. NICE! *

An artificial lake called the **“lake of Polyfytos”** was formed a few years ago around the area, making **Aliakmonas** a perfect refuge to all kinds of fish, birds and serpents.

On the top of **Polyfytos’** lake, and between the village of **Neraida** and the **city Servia** an astonishing bridge can be found which is actually said to be t**he second biggest bridge on Balkans.**
