Macedonia has some 748 km of boundaries, shared with Serbia to the North, Kosovo to the northwest, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It is a transit way for shipment of goods from Greece, through the Balkans, towards Eastern, Western and Central Europe and through Bulgaria to the east.

The landscape of the region is made of lakes and mountains. If you are a nature lover you should probably make a stop in the region, in the Ohrid Lake, the Prespa Lake, the Karaorman mountains, the Illinska mountains or the Smolari waterfalls. There are also some nice monasteries to visit, such as the monastery of Bogorodica and the monastery of Saint Leontius.

Every time I come back to my home place, Ohrid, instead of calling my friends, my ‘’I am back’’ signal is given by spamming on my Instagram profile! It is a small place to be, but offers huge travel inspiration, and Instagram too! Here are my three reasons why I find Ohrid exciting for photography.

There is one constant, little bit fairytale-ish silhouette, where the church st. Jovan Kaneo is threatening to jump in the water. You can have this as background no matter what is the topic you are choosing for your photo. When in Ohrid, you will be overwhelmed by the feeling that the water is following you. You can take a photo of your coffee, food, shoes, and with this water background, its bingo for your Insta profile!

## 2. Oriental patterns like the Aladdin’s carpet



There is a small world in Ohrid, crowded with different textures. Professionals would say that is a key for good photo, but the rating of my Insta posts do too. The architecture, the shop windows, colors, shadows, materials…Infinite combinations for an exciting photo! A Little bit nostalgic, a little bit vintage, but different and worth visiting, the one and only: The Old Turkish Bazaar in Ohrid. While here, eat baklava! One that you will remember for sure! I am occasionally dreaming of it too.

No need to mention that each Balkan country is must visit if you are a food lover. So when in Ohrid, eat. Forget about your diet and use the hashtag YOLO! Traditional food or not, It is impossible to choose badly. Kebabs with Skopsko (beer) or waffles with coffee, it is hard decision to make. Good luck!
