If you love nature, adventure, and thrill of the unknown, then the Jim Corbett National Park is a must-visit place for you. Located in the Nainital district of India's Uttarakhand state, the national park offers plenty of opportunities to get a step closer to nature and see flora and fauna (including rare wild animals) from up close. There are several public and private travel operators, who run jeep safaris as well as elephant rides to the jungle, which you can choose as per your convenience. Also, there are many low-budget to expensive hotel options in the area, where you can spend a day or a couple of days, depending on your budget as you soak up the beauty of this surreal place.
If luck is on your side, you can spot animals such as Bengal tigers, Asiatic elephants, sloth bears, deers, otters, and crocodiles. When I went for the safari, our group could only spot a few snakes, animal footprints, and 'tigers' droppings, which our travel guide showed us over-enthusiastically. Alas, we returned to our hotel, covered in dust from head to toe. So, you should wear full-sleeved clothes to avoid any mosquito bites and manage your mane correctly if you wish to brush them the next day. Going for safaris is a very tiring process but also a fascinating one. The highs and lows of the safari trail leave you in awe that India is such a resource-rich country, which many Indians fail to acknowledge.
Moreover, if bird watching excites you, there are over 650 species of resident and migratory birds, which will amuse you with their intriguing behaviour and sweet songs, plus whistles. And there's nothing more pleasing than listening to birds sing amidst natural surroundings. The national park is no less than green heaven for nature lovers and those who are looking for a tranquil vacation, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The pace of life in the region is slow, people are friendly plus souvenirs and accessories are easily affordable. During my vacation, I didn't want the trip to end because everything around me was exceptionally peaceful, beautiful and unadulterated, which I rarely experience in New Delhi.
The national park is situated at a distance of approx. 260 km from the capital and well connected via road, train and flight routes. Visiting the national park is a one of a kind experience, as you get to stay amid thick jungles and wildlife. It's an unforgettable adventure, which must be revelled by nature and wildlife lovers to the fullest. The place offers the mind-boggling amount of green cover and fresh air around, which has almost become like a distant dream in metropolitan cities of India. The food served at restaurants is quite fresh and hygienic; however, if you prefer less spicy food, you must notify your chef about it earlier. Food preferences here are more on the more seasoned side.
Further, don't forget to carry your big hat, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion and mosquito repellent. All these things will come very handy during the trip. So, pack your bags and get set to experience nature's bounty and peace at Jim Corbett National Park. Don't forget to say hello to wild animals, but not literally. Most importantly, if you are planning a trip to this luscious place, skip the monsoon season as roads become almost non-existent due to overflowing water.
