Locally referred as The Kop, it’s the trendsetter among all of the Serbian mountains. Kopaonik has it all: the nature part, the winter sports part, the urban part. It’s a favorite winter destination for many, and the crowds of young people brought it an international fame. It’s ideal for the yearly winter sports holiday and top quality skiing experience, all while on a budget.

Winter Activities at Kopaonik

Kopaonik is the biggest ski center of Serbia, and one of the most beautiful in this part of Europe. As the biggest center, it offers a lot of skiing opportunities and well-maintained trails, for the beginners as well as the advanced skiers. The big part of the mountain is called “Flat Kopaonik” where the most of accommodations, cable cars, and other skiing amenities are situated. The accommodation capacity in this part is around 1000, so imagine what kind of a snowy party it can be.

Kopaonik is covered with a white layer for more than six months every year. Regardless of these optimal natural conditions, most skiing trails are enriched with artificial snow-making systems. There is even a special trail for night skiing.

Rural Winter Wonderland at Kopaonik

The slopes of the Kopaonik mountain offer a wide range of rural touristic accommodations and dining experiences, which may be a perfect way to discover Serbia. The wooden houses with a fire crackling in the fireplace, the dear people covered in over-sized sweaters and warm blankets are not just a common scene in American movies about Christmas. It’s actually real and is a part of the rural winter holiday accommodation offer in Kopaonik.

Can you smell that warm cinnamon tea yet? Or is it the mulled wine?

National Park Kopaonik

Kopaonik is the biggest mountain range in Serbia. For its natural treasures, one section of the massif became a national park in 1981. The national park counts a large number of endemic and rare species of plants and animals and is one of the areas with the biggest biodiversity rate in Serbia. The higher parts of the mountain are covered in evergreen woods while the dominant tree in the lower parts is a maple. The highest peak is at 2017 meters and is called Pancic's Peak, named after a famous Serbian botanist, Josif Pancic.

The available outdoor activities around the park are countless, but mostly better suited for the warmer seasons. Hiking, trekking, cycling, horse riding; just to name a few. Aside from the snowy wonders and natural remedies, Kopaonik also hides the history lessons. It was the central area of the Medieval Serbian state and there are multiple castles and fortifications as testimonies of the past - Zvečan, Koznik, and Maglic.

Whatever may be your motivation to visit, make sure to utilize the most of the remedies that this trendsetter of the mountains has to offer. Kopaonik will welcome you to both winter and summer holiday, and it has everything needed to provide an unforgettable experience for both.
