Nesvizh Castle: the most beautiful palace in Belarus

Belarusians think that Nesvizh Castle is the most beautiful palace in the country, and I agree with them. It is located in a small town called Nesvizh, around 130 kilometers away from Minsk. History

The family of Radziwills built Nesvizh Castle in the 16th century, and they lived there until 1939. A famous Italian architect, Giovanni Maria Bernardoni, played an important role in the construction of the palace. The town Nezvizh itself is mentioned already from the 15th century by the historians. However, at that time, it was just a small settlement. From 1494, the palace was owned by the Kiszka family, and by that time, it was a small palace. In 1513, one of the family members - Anna Kiszka married to Ian Radzwill, and that is how they became the owners of Nesvizh Castle. 

In 1770, Nesvizh Palace was conquered by Russians, and later, in the 19th century, Redziwill family restored the palace, and they started to design the large gardens as well. After World War II, the castle was used as a sanatorium, and the gardens were left without attention. From 2006, Nezvizh Palace was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. 

Description of the castle

The castle was built by the year 1600, and it was reconstructed several times. The palace is an island-type complex, and it is constructed on a hill. It is surrounded by water, which makes Nesvizh Castle more attractive. In the past, to reach the fortress was only possible through the movable bridge. During the invasions, they were moving the bridge up in order to guard the fortress from the enemies. The castle also had four different secret exits and a stable. Nowadays, Nesvizh Castle has three floors, and the towers are located on the corners. 

Many architectural styles of the palace, such as Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, make its visitors enchanted. You will also see a beautiful park around the castle. The entrance to Nesvizh Castle is free, and you can also see the protected exhibits inside. In the territory of the palace, there is also a hotel and a restaurant, it is a great opportunity to spend several days in this magnificent place.
