This Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia is the place to be at the end of the winter season when FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Finals is happening. Thousands of ski-jumping fans will be cheering in Planica at the end of the March (22nd – 25th) for the best ski jumpers in the world and enjoying days of great party.
The first ski jump in Planica – the cradle of ski jumping – was built even before 1930. The current flying hill has the size of 240 m and many ski flying records have been set there in the history of ski jumping.
And ski jumping is not reserved for the ski legends only – even you can enjoy flying over one of the world’s largest jumping hill. The 566 m long zipline will be an unforgettable experience and your adrenaline will definitely kick in when you reach the top speed of 85 km/h.
It really seems that in this valley everything is about flying. For all of us, who still didn’t grow any wings, there is a great opportunity to try out the indoor skydiving. All you need to do is to lie on the air mattress, when the wind current simulates the feeling of flying.
Athletes and adventure-seekers can definitely find something to do in Planica. Every year the hill is hosting the Red Bull 400 world series event, where the competitors from all over the world are overcoming the 400 m of distance in the near-vertical uphill sprint.
But Planica has something to offer to anyone, not only the toughest athletes. A modern Nordic Centre is a paradise for many kinds of entertainment and even if you’re not a fan of exhausting workouts there are many tempting activities to try out. You can enjoy the winter fairytale while cross-country skiing, whereas in the summer days maybe even go to the top of the flying hill to enjoy the view and imagine how the ski jumpers feel before taking off.
