Piran: Slovenia's colourful coastal town

When hot summer days arrive, there is no better place to be than a charming town right by the coast, where you can get a refreshment while swimming in the clear water, as well as a relax by the seaside and get some tan. That is exactly what is waiting for you in Piran, a coastal town on the edge of the Slovenian Riviera with breath-taking sunsets, charming narrow streets and a colourful atmosphere.

The name of the town of Piran, which means fire in Greek, originates from the ancient times, when the fires were being lit at the tip of the town’s seashore to guide the ships to the port, now known as Luka Koper.

One of the top attractions in Piran is definitely its main square, which is named after an Italian composer Giuseppe Tartini, who was born in the town. The Tartini square is surrounded by colourful houses and cafés with a statue of the grand Italian violinist in the middle. There are always people gathering there, as it is often a scene of many events and concerts.

If you are a fan of beautiful views, you should visit the Walls of Piran (Piransko obzidje) or St. George's Parish Church, both offering magnificent views over Piran and the Adriatic Sea with no end. The most known is the Piran beach, where you can relax in the sun and enjoy the view of the famous Strunjan cliff and the city of Trieste in the distance.
