Prague- Vinohrady district

Your must "go-to district" during your visit in Prague. Vinohrady actually means vineyards; the district got its name by the vineyards it was covered with, in the 14th century.

Today this is a very popular district and a very attractive neighbourhood for young professionals, since it’s close to the Prague city centre. Vinohrady will definitely not leave you disappointed nor hungry; make sure you take your time to indulge in some of Prague's most unique coffee places, worldwide cuisines, and local farmers’ markets.

Namesti Miru

The best way to visit the Vinohrady district, is by taking the subway to Namesti Miru (the square of peace). This square is very unique itself, since it is where the Vinohrady theatre and the Narodni dum (national hall), are located. The theatre building is an absolute piece of art dating back to 1907, with two angels on top of the side colons of the building. They are said to be the angels of bravery and truth.

As you walk further into the neighbourhood and towards Jiriho z Podebrad Square, you will come across a popular and historic building in Vinohrady, the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord built in 1932. (Fun fact: this church has the largest clock in Central Europe).

For the hungry souls

In case you need a quick snack or a break to help you absorb the beauty of the neighbourhood, you can treat yourself to an amazing vegan donut at the Donut Shop on namesti Jiriho z Podebrad. (P.S. these donuts are so delicious, you would have never guessed they are vegan).

If donuts are not your thing, don’t worry there is always something for the beer lovers too. Have a unique Czech beer pub experience at Vinohradsky Pivovar, where a great choice of beers is offered to choose from.

If you happen to be in the neighbourhood on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, then do make a stop at the Jirak farmers’ market (on Jiriho z Podebrad square). Jirak's farmers' market is one of the most popular places in the city to shop for local produce.

As mentioned earlier, Vinohrady is the neighbourhood of multiple types of cuisines and specifically, Mexican, Vietnamese and Italian. One of the neighbourhood’s favourites is the Pho Vietnam, which happens to be one of the first places to serve Vietnamese food, in the city. For all the travellers who happen to visit Prague in the cold winter, a delicious hot bowl of Pho will no doubt keep you warm and comfort your soul.

Christmas magic

For any of you who might be traveling to Prague during the winter season, Namesti Miru hosts the first Christmas market of the season starting at the end of November and all the way until Christmas day. The market is located in front of the Church of St. Ludmila, offering a variety of local food, mulled wine, and traditional Czech arts and crafts.
