Sierra Nevada, a snow paradise in southern Spain

When thinking about visiting Spain, most people believe that my country mainly offers incredible beaches, good weather and abundant sunshine (which is 100% true). But what most people don’t know is that Spain has a wide range of high and low mountains ranges spreading across the country, covered by snow during the cold months. These are incredible breath-taking landscapes, which I honestly think people do not expect to find in Spain. One of my favorite winter destinations is located by the beautiful city of Granada. The town becomes even more** unique and special** since you can have both the beach and the mountains only 30 minutes away from each other.

Sierra Nevada (which means "mountain range covered in snow") is a** mountain range** in the region of Andalucia, in the province of Granada. You can find in the Sierra Nevada the highest point of continental Spain, Mulhacén, at 3,479 meters (11,414 ft) above sea level. It is a popular tourist destination, since its high peaks make skiing possible in one of Europe's most southerly ski resorts, in an area along the Mediterranean Sea known for its warm temperatures. At its **foothills, the Moorish city of Granada is found, as I mentioned before and, a little further, **Almería and Málaga.

Sun and snow are assured in this emblematic environmental paradise, which was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986 and which acquired a National Park status in 1989. If you are keen on winter sports, Sierra Nevada is your place. Its 115,6 skiable kilometers on** 120 marked slopes**, the quality of the snow, the exceptional treatment of the hills, and the complementary leisure and facilities offered, make the Sierra Nevada an international reference point and a must-see for those who love nature.

This is the paradise for snow lovers, both for skiers and non-skiers, which bring together the right ingredients to have great fun at one of the most impressive national parks of Andalusia. You cannot miss out on the wide variety of snow sports and activities to practice during the day, while at night fun is also guaranteed: tapas and drinks alongside the slopes, restaurants, discos, etc.

But the offer of leisure for non-skiers also includes the woods surrounding the Sierra Nevada resort that are perfect for a beautiful route for snowshoeing. From the woods, the other end of the mountain range, and its mountains, you can do one of the most fascinating activities just as the sun goes down: enjoying the beautiful sunsets. **The sunsets over the Sierra Nevada mountain range **are truly amazing, and you can experience this from extraordinary points of Andalusia, such as the top of the resort's weather vane or the astronomical observatory. The Sierra Nevada is also a paradise for snowboard lovers and attracts riders from around the world thanks to the longest line for jumps and modules in Europe.

It is really worth visiting** the Sierra Nevada mountain range**, which is located 30 minutes away from Granada since it is full of white landscapes with amazing sunsets that will make you disconnect from your daily life. It is also considered the paradise for snow lovers as you can practice **a wide range of different winter sports **and experience this national park in different ways. Light and warmth! Enjoy the snow, and much more!
