Skiing ideas in Central Italy

The winter season is definitely here and, for the lucky ones who can travel this period of the year, spending some days skiing or enjoying other snow-involving activities is usually what you aim for when packing the bags. Skiing trips in Italy, however, can be off-budgets for many because usually the tendency is to look among destinations such as the Alps region or the Dolomites, which are surly the two most outstanding skiing zones in the Peninsula, but not ideal for who isn’t looking for top-class tracks. In Central Italy locations like the Alto Sangro ski area or Gran Sasso in Abruzzo and Abetone in Tuscany, instead, should also get some attentions; several quality facilities, beautiful surroundings, and lightly steep tracks add up to make a great scenario for skiing weekends or short weeks.

The Alto Sangro ski area is the widest and the one with the highest number of tracks in Centre-South Italy. While having fun throughout one-hundred and fifty kilometres of skiing tracks and sixty of cross-country, you could stop by one of the many lodges that enrich the area and enjoy something warm to drink (Bombardino is the locals’ favourite) or take a look at the snow park. The variety of the slopes, moreover, allow both expert skiers and less-expert skiers to appreciate this area of the Apennines.

Abetone can also be a good choice if you find yourself in Tuscany; easy to reach from tourists’ favourites Firenze and Siena, this location works perfectly if you want to spend a “white weekend”. The skiing complex is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers while more professional ones can still enjoy a good number of off-tracks through the slopes’ many firs.
