With hot **summer **days just around the corner, there also comes a time when we start looking for suitable places to spend our relaxing vacation. Although Slovenia - the land between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, doesn’t have the biggest coast, its coastal towns will charm you instantly and could be the perfect choice for your next **summer **adventure. Besides the charming colourful town of Piran, the biggest and most important tourist destination and seaside resort on the Slovenian coast is Portorož. Since the Slovenian coast is located right by the Italian border, many towns and areas there are bilingual. With this comes the fact that a lot of towns basically have two different versions of their names. This is also true for Portorož, with the Italian version of the town's name being Portorose, which beautifully translates as “Port of Roses".
You won’t have a problem with finding accommodation in Portorož, as there are numerous hotels and apartments available very close to the biggest and neatest sandy beach in Slovenia, the Portorož Central Beach. The Portorož Central Beach is equipped with many beach chairs and umbrellas, (which you can borrow for the price of 5 euros) and lots of water slides and water playgrounds. There is also one of the best cake and ice cream shops in the country, Cacao, located almost on the beach. What else could you wish for than sitting in the shade of a big umbrella and breathing the sea air with a scoop of delicious, refreshing ice cream?
If you happen to be a person of extravagance, I am sure you will be delighted to hear that you can **spend **your nights in the centre of Portorož at the only five-star deluxe hotel in Slovenia - Kempinski Palace Portorož. As the name implies, the building of the hotel looks like a palace itself and was one of the most important coastal resorts on the once Austrian Riviera. It was built in 1908 and hosted a number of notable guests like Josip Broz Tito, the president of Yugoslavia, after whom the presidential suite, also known as “Tito Suite”, was named. If the prices of the rooms at the hotel exceed your budget, it is still a beautiful historical building worth seeing, even if only from the outside.
Other than sunbathing in the hot sun on the beaches of Portorož, there are numerous other options to **spend **your vacation at the "Port of Roses". Borrow a bike and enjoy the view as you cycle by the coast, play volleyball and other summer sports, explore the history and cuisine of the Slovenian coast or visit the unique museum dedicated to the famous British rock band - The Rolling Stones Museum.
