Exploring Paris (hands down, worth it no matter how many times you’ve been) can add up. A box of macaron here, a museum ticket there, so the last thing you want to break the bank is your accommodation. But that’s the great thing about such a bustling metropolis - there’s dreamy luxury hotels that Paris are known for, and then there are just as worthy affordable ones.
We’ve asked our Live the World editors who are on the ground in the French capital, where they recommend to stay for whenever their friends and family are in town… On a budget that is. There’s a few caveat - the accommodation has to be well rated and well priced. Some of these the editors have stayed in when they first moved to Paris themselves! With that, we rounded up the best Paris affordable hotels and hostels for your next trip.
While you’re scoping out on some deals, check out these unmissable activities for Paris:
Hostel? Hotel? …What about both? Have your pick at The People - Paris Marais! What I love about this accommodation is for the hostel, each bed have a curtain that you can pull over for privacy along with a shelf inside your bunk to store whatever you need. The common space are absolutely gorgeous, with an actual huge tree in the middle of the lounge area too. The People - Paris Marais definitely knows how to create rooms for hostels that gives you your own personal space, all the while having enough areas to socialize.

Each rom at the Absolute Hotel Paris République is like a street art canvas, where an actual graphic designer splash the walls with urban funky art. Walking through the corridor of the hotel, you’ll see that the once blank white walls are all scribbled and marked with sharpies and crayons - and the hotel encourages you to leave your mark on its walls too. There’s a bucket filled with different colour pens that you can write your name right on the wall itself. No matter where you go in this hotel, it’s a colourful art attack!

Our editors say that what they love about staying at JO&JOE Paris - Nation is the easy, breezy 100 metres of rooftop. Sunset cocktails anyone? It’s a great outdoor space to wind down from a day of exploring Paris. The lounge area is a quirky with neon lights, communal tables for socializing, foosball and old arcade stands. The hostel taps into the lively nightclubs and bars that surround the streets of this Parisian neighbourhood, so whether you’re looking for a night out or a night in, there’s always something to do here.

Montmarte is one of Paris’ most beloved neighbourhoods, adorned its artistic roots still alive today while the white domes of The Basilica of Sacré Coeur shimmers high above. Caulaincourt Montmartre by Hiphophostels just so happens to be situated in Montmarte, with its front door a simple walk out to the cutest cafes and picture-esque cobblestone streets. The rooms are quirky with a play on soft colours and different mix and matching of wallpaper. The rooms are also great for a quiet sleep - the walls and windows keep the noise of the popular neighbourhood out well enough.

For some hostels, you just can’t believe that it’s even a hostel due to the high standard of quality in service, design, and comfort that they provide for guest. That’s a crown that The People - Paris Nation can wear proudly, with a chic bar on the rooftop, it’s affordability, and swinging 1920s aesthetic that’s pleasing for the eyes. There's quite a few room and lounges throughout the hotel made for hanging out and meeting new friends.

You can never go wrong the the Generator brand of hostels - no matter which city you are in. But the charm of the Generator Paris is that it’s uniquely designed, giving you a different vibe from other hostels in the neighbourhood but as well as other Generator hostels. It taps into a colourful North African motif and there are plenty of rooms throughout the building to explore outside of the dormitories too. Check out the underground-type bar, that’s built out of subway tiles with its own disco ball. My favourite part of the hostel? There’s a rooftop terrace that’s perfect for sunny days, with impeccable view of Montmarte in the distance.

Canal Saint-Martin is a stretch of 2.6 kilometre canal running through Paris - and certainly not one of the places in the city that many travellers even think about. Which is unfortunate, because in recent years Canal Saint-Martin has become a booming place for Paris’ cool kids, electrifying vibes as it is romantically bohemian. Hotel Luna Park is just walking distance to this area, which will give you an authentic experience into Parisian life this side of the Seine.

For environmentally friendly and sustainably concious-travellers, finding the right accommodation that genuinely cares about being green can be a challenge. Hotel Gavarni however is completely environment-friendly with staff that truly cares. The rooms are stunning, with every detail from the linen to the type of mattress thought of. While the price for a stay at this hotel (depending on the day of the week and the season) is a bit higher than other accommodation on this list, it’s truly a gem that anyone would appreciate and enjoy.
