Corralejo, one of the island's tourist centres, is located in the municipality of La Oliva, in the northeast of Fu[erteventura](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/best-hikes-and-accomodation-in-fuerteventura-30lr). With a population of less than 20,000 inhabitants, it has the entire necessary infrastructure for water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, and paddle surf on its long beaches. But not just that, this town is a very unique and fun place and offers more. In this story, I am going to tell you about the best things to do in Corralejo, to enjoy the place to its fullest.

To get a good idea of what Corralejo’s coast looks like, I would highly recommend making your way between the port and the beach of Las Agujas (today Vista Lobos beach) or vice versa. You will pass through the village itself, several small coves or you can go directly along the sandy path. It is a few kilometres but you can shorten it wherever you want. On this walk it is interesting to see the Popcorn beach. This beach owes its name to the similarity of the eroded stones on the shore to popcorn. It has become now a very Instagramable place!

Corralejo’s Beaches

If people consider the beaches of Fuerteventura as the best ones in the Canary Islands, I believe the beaches of Corralejo are some of the best in Fuerteventura. Based on this premise, you know what you are going to find. The beaches of Corralejo are located on the eastern side of the island, within the Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo, and are known as Grandes Playas (Great Beaches).

Grandes Playas are a series of paradisiacal beaches of white sand and crystal clear, turquoise waters, unspoilt and, and very little frequented in many areas. So if you are looking for peace and quiet you will be able to enjoy them practically in solitude. Other areas, on the contrary, are more crowded. In my opinion, the attraction of Corralejo lies in the variety it offers, as there is something and a place for almost every single taste.

The Corralejo Dunes

These dunes are, without a doubt, one of Fuerteventura’s biggest attractions. The Corralejo Dunes are a group of dunes that form part of the Corralejo Natural Park. The origin of the dunes is organic as they were formed through the disintegration and pulverisation of shells and other marine organisms with an external skeleton. Fuerteventura is characterised by an arid landscape, but if you want to have the feeling of being in the desert, you have to visit these dunes.

The dunes are crossed by a road, which divides the area in two. The most popular part is the one next to the beach, however, if you want to see the higher dunes in a quiet way, we recommend you to go to the other side of the road. The dunes run parallel to the coast for about eight kilometres and this means that while you have the feeling of being in the desert, you will also have spectacular views of the sea. It’s a pretty unique place and sensation. If you like the idea of not having to worry about parking and having someone who guides you, then this popular trip around the dunes**  the  is the perfect one for you, check it out!

Isla de Lobos

One of the most essential activities to do in Corralejo is to visit the island of Lobos, a small and unique islet full of ecological richness. It definitely is one of the many idyllic spots in the Canary Islands but with the novelty of being almost uninhabited. Small coves with crystal clear water, hiking through its peculiar terrain or diving in its vicinity are some of the most interesting activities to do on Isla de Lobos. One of the most popular ways to get there is by ferry. Book your ticket here for a very economical price and explore this protected natural park and its many wonders.
