The border closing ceremony, popularly known as the 'Beating Retreat Ceremony' attracts thousands of patriots from both India as well as Pakistan. The purpose of this ceremony is to lower the national flag and formally close the national border. Still, the way it actually proceeds between the two nations is semi-theatrical. The ceremony is carried out every evening before the sunset and is nothing less than an adrenaline-gushing experience for the viewers.

The Wagah Attari border reminds one of the eras of emperors. The ceremony put forth every evening by the Border Security Force (In[dia](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/india-a-modest-mini-continent-gdbc)), and Pakistan Rangers is nothing short of medieval kingdoms showing off their military prowess. If you wish to enjoy a good view of the ceremony, reaching early is suggested to occupy good seats

The best jawans (police officials) from both countries display their patriotism with some jaw defying stunts and acrobatic displays with weapons. These acts are cheered on by patriotic songs from both sides of Indian and Pakistani border, entertaining the crowds. As a ceremony between two nations, there is just no parallel to the beating ceremony, which needs to be witnessed to understand what exactly nationalism means in this diverse sub-continent.

A successful show or ceremony is completed with the forcefully shutting doors on each side of the border, symbolizing kicking out of enemies. Once the doors are completely shut, normalcy returns to the crowd, which was earlier jumping with enthusiasm and pride. Soon after, the huge crowds dissipate within minutes into the waiting buses and cars to get back to Am[ritsar](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/the-golden-temple-of-amritsar-where-faith-and-food-intertwine-7m06) and Lahore (in Pakistan)

Also, there are a few important things to remember while going to the Wagah Attari border. The size of the stadium is adequate, so seats are allocated on a 'first come, first serve basis'. It's a different kind of patriotic vibe at the border, which can be experienced only at the venue. Young girls dancing on the main street to patriotic songs as people (from both sides) cross the border to visit their friends and family in India/ Pakistan is an emotional sight to behold.

An authentic experience

Mobiles and cameras are allowed inside the stadium so you can record the stunning ceremony. Also, a word of caution: not just patriots go here, pickpockets also reach here in abundance, so being cautious is crucial. Another important aspect is there is no entry ticket to watch the ceremony, so you will find huge crowds, hence choose accordingly.

The surreal experience leaves one with a lifetime of memories and gratitude in your hearts for the men and women who sincerely dedicate their lives to the service of their nations. If you are around Amritsar, do not miss going to the border-closing ceremony at Attari–Wagah to enjoy a lovely spectacle of valor displayed by India and Pakistan.
