Romania’s Danube River is so beautiful. It’s a natural border, separating Romania from Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine. More so, it’s a favorable habitat for a multitude of flora and fauna. This characteristic is especially visible in the Danube Delta, in the south-eastern region of the country, where the Danube spills into the Black Sea. In the south-western part of Romania, the Danube flows near the rock-carved statue of Decebalus, the last Dacian king. In the interest of giving tourists accommodation as exciting as the Danube itself, entrepreneurs created the Complex Egreta resort. The unique thing about this complex is that it contains floating houses right on the Danube, in the village of Berzasca. Located in the county of Caraş-Severin, Complex Egreta is a head-turner and a memorable way to spend time along the Danube, without having to give up the comforts of modern life.

Romania’s Bora Bora

Recently, more and more pictures have started popping up with a place in Romania that looks exotic and very relaxing. After researching, I had to go and take a look. Complex Egreta is becoming known as the Bora Bora of Romania, some even considering it a low-cost Maldives resort. Sure, the sea isn’t within reach, but who needs it when one can still bathe in the river, and fish from the decks of the floating houses. The place also has something which the Black Sea lacks, hills! Especially in the mornings, when the fog is lifting from the river, the hills look sleepy and serene.

The accommodation

Visitors can step on the floating terrace and take pictures of the nearby hills and river without having to book a stay at the Egreta. For those of you who wish to have the full experience, know that rooms must be booked in advance and that the houses are open from the end of April to the end of August. Egreta contains fifteen bungalows, each with its 16m² terrace overlooking the river, one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. They also have boats to rent, along with fishing gear. Because the houses are right on the Danube, the location of the complex is perfect for sightseeing and has interesting places in its vicinity.

What to visit in the area?

Caraş-Severin county is filled with gems. The well-known Cheile Nerei-Beuşniţa National Park is about 45 km away from the village of Berzasca. This park encompasses the never-freezing lake in the Anina Mountains, which is called Ochiul Beiului Lake. To get to the lake, one must drive to the national park and choose one of the hiking trails. If hiking doesn’t sound appealing, then the next location which is accessible only by car should be more to your liking. In the same Cheile Nerei-Beuşniţa National Park, the Bigăr Waterfall attracts curious visitors daily through its uniqueness and legends

If one wishes to stay close to the Danube, then know that many in the area rent out jet skis and give boat tours to the Decebalus statue. Sitting on a boat and seeing Romania on one side and Serbia on the other is always an interesting ride. Whichever activities you choose, remember that Complex Egreta will be your oasis of tranquillity after finishing your exploring for the day. Hear the seagulls that are flying over the Danube and let the sounds of the river lull you to sleep on these floating houses in Berzasca
