If you are visiting Recife and looking to find a nice souvenir, or present to take back home, then you should visit the Centro de Artesanato de Pernambuco (or, Handicraft Center of Pernambuco), located in the Old Recife neighborhood, just next to the Marco Zero Square. There you can find traditional products from artists from all the states of Pernambuco.
Carlos Augusto Lira signed the architectural project of the center, and its inauguration took place in 2012, when the Governor of Pernambuco Eduardo Campos, started a big project for the renovation of the city center. The handicraft center can be spotted on the left side of the square, while on the right side, you can find several restaurants to enjoy local food.
Inside the center, there are more than 20 thousand pieces available to purchase, produced by 1,4 thousand artisans. The decoration allows the visitor to witness the use of handicrafts in spaces such as living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, among others, through a contemporary perspective. Also, you can find products made by diverse raw materials, such as ceramics, wood, glass, metal, lace, textile, and others.
While shopping, keep in mind that all the cards are accepted. To facilitate the visitors, the employees at the center can speak English, Spanish, French, and Italian.
Once you finish your visit, don't forget that you are in the most touristic part of all the city, so save some time to enjoy the cultural environment around the Old Recife's neighborhood.
