The magical Isle of Skye, in Scotland

Scotland has always been a source of inspiration for different artists, ranging from famous English writers such as the iconic feminist modernist 20th century writer Virginia Wolf to the famous British novelist and film producer J.K. Rowling, and her awesome fantasy series Harry Potter. Scotland is also one of my favourite places out of all the ones that I have seen so far and I really enjoy writing about some of the most beautiful Scottish spots. In this article, I will be talking about the magical Island of Skye and several locations to visit there.

Skye is the largest of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, located in the north. It is connected to the east coast of the mainland by a bridge and it is one of the top locations to visit in Scotland. This small island is popular due to its magical green landscapes, its picturesque maritime villages, its medieval castles, and has quite a lot of mountains and lakes that will take your breath away. If you are a wildlife lover, then Skye is also a wonderful place for spotting White Tailed Sea Eagles, otters, seals, whales, dolphins, red deer, and plenty of Atlantic salmon.

The city of Portree...

The city of Portree can be a very good point to start exploring the island, as it is the largest town located on the west side of the island and also the cultural capital. You can’t miss the harbour, fringed by cliffs and full of colourful, pretty houses. You can also find plenty of shops, souvenirs, restaurants, hostels and hotels there. Summer is probably the best season to visit this village, that has little more than 2000 inhabitants but double that number in summer because of the tourists, with temperatures that are usually more pleasant and warmer than during the angry and stormy winter months.

Dunvengan Castle

If you like castles like me, in the north west of the island there is a beautiful medieval one known as Dunvengan Castle, located 1.6 km to the north of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. The castle was first built during the 13th century and later on was developed over the centuries, and it has stunning green gardens as well as offering seal trips for children and adults. Definitely, it is worth checking out.

I think the Isle of Skye offers lots of amazing spots to enjoy and explore, and I consider it to be a very unique and picturesque place full of magical nature in the north east of Scotland that will make your experience there unforgettable. In my opinion, it is the perfect place for a road trip with those you enjoy travelling and exploring in nature with.
