I am almost certain that everybody has a favorite season. And of course, there are the activities one can best practice in a specific season. It won’t be a surprising fact for you that, for example, skiing can be done only in the winter. Autumn is the season perfect for short and long walks as the heat of the summer slowly goes away. As for me, I would definitely opt for every season, but the closest one to be my favorite is autumn. I still remember those trips we took as children to Pasul Tihuța, the most beautiful place to visit in Romania in autumn. There are almost no words to describe the beauty of the landscape in northern Transylvania, when nature becomes the most talented painter.
Pasul Tihuța or the Tihuța Pass is a mountain pass in northern Transylvania, having Măgura Calului in the east and Piatra Fântânelei in the west. This place is also a gate between two Romanian parts: Transylvania and Bukovina. The pass is also mentioned in the famous Dracula novel, written by Bram Stoker, as the gate to the realm of the Count of Dracula.
There is another reason why this place is so attractive - the picturesque landscape. The trip one takes in order to get to the pass is breath-taking during all the seasons, with autumn being the most amazing of them. It is often the case that the fog surrounds this area and it becomes even more unbelievable and dreamy. No wonder some of the legends regarding vampires of Transylvania started just here. It will seem like nature and the trees are the only ones taking this journey along with you. The other companions are the most beautiful green, coppery and yellow tree leaves that* *I have ever seen.
Of course, there are some other interesting activities to undertake here, except enjoying the beautiful landscapes. The first activity that comes to mind is a short or long hiking tour. The area offers an extensive palette of such adventures: from walks that take a few hours to day-long tours. The more adventurous of you can enjoy climbing the Bistricior Peak, a journey which will take about 10 hours from the Tihuța Pass and take you to the altitude of almost 2000 meters.
Something one shouldn’t miss is the journey to detect Dracula in Transylvania as, according to some of the legends, the Hotel Castel Dracula, near the pass, is where the famous vampire rests and where his coffin is being kept. One should definitely try to eat mamaliga like Jonathan Harker from Dracula, a dish served everywhere in this area. All this in the company of nature’s greatest paintings, at the most beautiful place to visit in Romania in autumn, Pasul Tihuța.
