Manon Vanschepdael | Live the World
November 23, 2022
For a weekend in August, actors, clowns, musicians and acrobats settle down in the whole village. Every corner turns into an improvised stage for the delight of spectators. The festival is a very convivial place for each member of the family. 40 companies with different styles are invited every year. Even if the compagnies are really different, they always encourage humor, surprise, as well as contact with the audience and spontaneity.
Since 2009, the festival decided to get involved into sustainable development. In 2012, they push it a step further. They had the desire to reduce the waste production and therefore work on sorting. During the festival, they asked spectators to separate waste and used reusable cups. they also tried to sensibilise people with smaller actions.
In Chassepierre festival, you will also find a craft and food market. All the products sold are made by local producers and craftsmen. A lof of different products are available on the market, such as sweets, exceptional ice cream, wooden toys, donkey milk products, Gaume regional saffron, tea, enamel animal figurines, female clothing, hats and handbags, necklaces and earrings...
Each Summer, when I was a child, my parents took us, my sister and I, to the festival. We spent one day there and really enjoyed it. We arrived around 12.30 (30min before the start of the performances), after leaving the car into the giant parking lot next to the village's entrance, and went in to find something to eat. Like in every festivals, you eat what you want. After that we had to choose which shows we wanted to see. There are many stages in Chassepierre and sometime shows are happening at the same time. Even though choosing could create some conflict inside the family, we always agreed on one thing: the last show of the day (the most impressive) followed by an amazing firework. At the end of the day, we always fell asleep on the way home.
The village is also a touristic spot. Chassepierre is one of the most beautiful villages of Wallonia. There are many activities to do around:
