Three must-visit beaches in Gargano, Italy's spur

Arguably the most recognizable part of Italy’s 7600 kilometres of coastline is the Amalfi one, just southern from Napoli, its landscapes are truly special. But just across, on the Adriatic side, the area of Gargano is good competition. The Italian “spur” will impress you with its rocky beaches, wild cliffs overlooking the sea, luxurious vegetation, and hidden beaches and coves. Even the two most important cities of the littoral area, Peschici and Vieste will definitely not let you down.

The road that starts from Rodi and arrives to the Manfredonia is just stupendous and allows you to enjoy some of the most terrific views Italy has to offer. With jagged green mountains on one side and deep blue sea on the other one you could drive on it back and forth for days. At a certain point, though, a stop is needed and where better than a sandy and cosy cove? Here are three suggestions for you:

Spiaggia della Zaiana

A couple of kilometres far from Peschici this beach welcomes the visitors with a stunning panorama. Then, once you reach the shore and take some steps into the sea, you’d be able to appreciate its peculiar W shape. Shady and a bit windy during the afternoon, you do not want to miss it.

Spiaggia di Cala Lunga

Rocks and pine trees delimit its borders. Trabucchi (a special fishing construction) and an old watchtower complete the view. The sea is crystal clear and transparent. Do you need more?

Cala delle Sanguinare

One of the most suggestive beach of the area but a little hard to reach. You’d have to walk through a grove and blackberries bushes before enjoying the stunning view formed by a mix of blue sea, green vegetation and massive white stacks coming right out of the water.
