Tossa de Mar, a breathtaking town of Costa Brava

Tossa de Mar is definitely one of the most emblematic and most photographed towns on the Costa Brava and one of its breathtaking gems. Like many other towns on the Girona coast, it is a perfect holiday destination due to its sunny weather and amazing beaches like Platja Gran or crystal clear coves like Platja Mar Menuda. But Tossa de Mar stands out from the other coastal towns on the Costa Brava for its beautiful old town, the Vila Vella, its stunning fortified medieval centre, declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931.

Far from the main land routes, Tossa de Mar lived relatively isolated from major wars and other conflicts that could have damaged or destroyed it, which made this town even prettier. However, the fortification was besieged on several occasions by Ottoman and Arab pirates. Nowadays, the medieval enclosure of the Vila Vella is in perfect condition and is still inhabited.

Most of the must-see places in Tossa de Mar are here, in the Vila Vella, which juts out into the sea and forms a small peninsula (the Cap de Tossa). I suggest starting by going around the walls along the Passeig de la Vila Vella, from where you will have incredible views over Tossa and its Platja Gran

Take a walk along the walls of Tossa de Mar (free access) and stroll between the battlements and watchtowers. It is worth going around the Villa Vella's entire perimeter to admire its picturesque houses and cobbled streets from an elevated viewpoint. Following your instinct, I recommend you let yourself get lost in the medieval streets of Tossa de Mar. And if you are looking for great accommodation, Holiday Home Cap de Tossa is located in a perfect spot, more specifically, 100 metres from Platja Gran and 700 metres from Platja de la Mar Menuda. This idyllic place offers its guests everything they may need and more to have an unforgettable and comfortable experience. Its beautiful decorative style is typical of the Spanish Mediterranean coast, making your experience more local and making you feel at home. In addition, the flat is among the best-rated by all guests, and everyone points out the perfect location and value for money.

Besides its cultural attractions, Tossa also stands out for its beautiful beaches and coves. There is something for everyone: small, isolated coves or a long, easily accessible beach. The most popular and busy is the Platja Gran (Large Beach), which is almost 400 metres long and is located just north of the Vila Vella. A few minutes' walk further north is Platja Mar Menuda, about 150 m long and quieter.

Among the many things to do in Tossa, one of the most popular activities is diving. This diving experience for beginners includes a brief theoretical introduction, an instructor and a certificate for a good price. Or if you are thinking about a day trip and staying in Barcelona, consider this amazing pack, a day tour by kayak to explore Tossa’s caves.
