Ukrainian Riviera: the Peninsula town Zalishchyky

In the west of Ukraine, in the Ternopil region, there is a small town – Zalishchyky. Its population is about 100 00 people. I know what you think, what can be interesting in such a small town? I have the answer to this question, Zalishchyky is the Ukrainian Riviera. It's a peninsula-town, hugged by the great Dniester River and surrounded by a large canyon.

History of the Ukrainian Riviera

In the 1930s, the town belonged to Poland and was an incredibly popular resort, visited by 10000 people a year. There was a direct railway with Warsaw. There were yachts and two beautiful beaches on the Dniester. The river bank was full of boarding houses with tennis courts. During the Second World War, the Soviet authorities and several large floods destroyed the large resort. Zalishchyky gained the glory as the tomato capital of Uk[raine](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/start-scratching-ukraine-on-your-travel-map-kmde) long ago. All thanks go to a special microclimate that is similar to the Mediterranean. Almost everyone grows tomatoes in Zalishchiky; local tomatoes are a true brand that is known throughout the Ternopil region and all over Ukraine. The land in the outskirts of the city is occupied by vineyards, which grow almost 100 varieties of grapes.

Charming oasis in the Dniester canyon

This town is situated in a truly unique area and mother nature made it a charming oasis. The best view of the Dniester canyon and the town of Zalishchyky is from the nearby village. This village carries the same name as the main street of the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv - Khreshchatyk. Here, you can see Zalishchyky from the hill, make great pictures, and enjoy the calm, peace and beauty.

Sailing around the Ukrainian Riviera

Today, the city attracts more and more tourists from both Ukraine and abroad. Here, you have the opportunity to spend unforgettable days taking part in the ride on the river Dniester on a catamaran. It is possible to sail for a few hours, but there is also an opportunity to give it a few days and stop for a night with tents. While cruising the canyon, you will have a unique opportunity to see an incredible nature and the herons, which have long been listed in the Red Book of Ukraine of the endangered species. They are just walking along the banks of the river. The Ukrainian Riviera is not a big resort today, and you can learn about its former glory only from people who are well aware of the history of this town.
