Have you ever thought about traveling to the "bottom of the world"? Imagine visiting the southernmost city on the planet where you will discover not only amazing wildlife but also marvelous landscapes and warm-hearted people. Imagine finding amazing penguins in their natural habitat or riding a fantastic and cozy train throughout splendid forests and impressive mountains. If this sounds good to you, then Ushuaia should be your next destination.

Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world

Ushuaia is the capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego and is known for being the southernmost city in the world. Actually, in Argentina, people refer to it as "The end of the world." This beautiful city, located where the Andes mountains begin, is home to load of penguins that arrive every year to spend the summer and reproduce. So in case you want to meet them, be aware of that and plan your trip from December to March. Apart from its wildlife and its particular architecture, the city and its surroundings offer a bunch of fun and exciting activities to carry out. From winter sports to amazing trekking, there are options for everybody and during the whole year.

Tierra del Fuego National Park

If you visit it during the summer, you will find an endless list of things to do. For trekking and hiking lovers, I would recommend to visit and discover the Tierra del Fuego National Park. This beautiful nature reserve is the home to wild animals, like swans and Pumas (native cougars), that roam the park surrounded by impressive forests, bright lakes, pure rivers, and glaciers. Apart from stunning trekking paths, the park offers fantastic kayak and bike routes. You also have the opportunity to spend the night in its camping areas, where you can enjoy long-lasting sunsets and beautiful sunrises.

The Martial Glacier

If after visiting the park you still feel like exploring nature, I encourage you to hike the Martial Glacier: A 7 km adventure that will take you through forests, waterfalls with impressive views that will take your breath away. For those who are not into walking, there is a paid chairlift service too.

The End of the World Train

Apart from the aforementioned, during the summer it is possible to enjoy different activities, such as taking "The End of the World Train," tasting the giant crab (the typical dish), visiting the old prison, or sailing the Beagle channel and re-create the adventure of Charles Darwin when crossing from Argentina to Chile.

Winter activities

Ushuaia also has many different attractions for winter travelers. Sled riding, snow-rackets walking, snowboarding, and skiing, are just a bunch of examples of what visitors can do when visiting during the coldest season. On top of that, I would like to highlight the night tours on the snow, where you'll carry torches and pass through forest paths that lead to cozy shelters. A typical argentine stew and a glass of wine will be waiting for you. Another option is to have a coffee and some treats in Almacen de Ramos Generales, a picturesque and antique restaurant that will take you back in time.

Although it is not the cheapest place to visit, Ushuaia is one of the most unique destinations in the world due to its location and its natural resources, activities, and landscapes. It is for sure, a must-visit for anyone that has the opportunity to do so. As I mentioned in other posts, Pa[tagonia ](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/los-alerces-national-park-a-first-approach-to-patagonia-tqg9)is maybe one of the most impactful regions in the world and so is its southernmost part.
