Városliget, the charming park in the middle of Budapest

City park, or Városliget as the locals say, is one of the metropolitans’ favourite part of the capital city. It’s a very chilling place for multiple reasons, as I’m about to show it to you in my following lines. It is located in district VII, which is geographically right in the center of the city - this is why we call Városliget, the charming park in the middle of Budapest. We are talking about almost 100 hectares of green area with more than 6,000 trees, and it has several opportunities for free time activities to offer: you can find plenty of famous buildings, statues, restaurants, coffee places, physical activity opportunities here. Városliget is a place, where everyone will find something to do, no matter, if you’re young or old, single or you come with kids.

Vajdahunyad Castle – The Museum of Hungarian Agriculture

Vajdahunyad Castle is one of the many romantic castles in Budapest, and it also can be found in City Park by a lovely little lake. Although the castle may look like a historical building from the 14th century, it was built „only” 102 years ago for the 1000th birthday of the Hungarian State, in 1896. If you expect to visit a haunted castle, facing the dark side of history with vampires, phantoms and ghosts, you will be slightly disappointed though, findig out, that the castle is actually The Museum of Hungarian agriculture. There are exhibitions in the museum with historical exhibits of agriculture, wine making, fishing, gardening and environmentalism. In addition to the exhibitions, the museum also hosts cultural festivals, food fairs, wine events, concerts and other entertaining programs both for adults and children.

Budapest Zoo - one of the oldest zoos in the world

The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the oldest zoological gardens in the world: it was opened to public on 9 August 1866. It proudly owns 1,072 different animal species (10,353 animals) and is situated in the center of the city - unusually for a zoo. The animal park is very popular, as it has more than 1 million visitors every year.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Széchenyi Spa Bath is the most famous part of the Városliget, or City Park, if you like, and is also the biggest and most popular of all the thermal baths in Budapest. What is more, it’s one of the largest natural hot spring spa baths in Europe too, what makes it worth to visit. Széchenyi Bath was built in 1913, and throughout its century old history, about 100 million bathers have enjoyed the warm medicinal waters and the fun pools. There are 18 pools in it and it’s open every single day of the year, including the national holidays. Beyond the outdoor and indoor pools, you are able to enjoy services like massages, treatments, saunas or the gym; you can relax by the pools with some cold beer or a fine wine in your hands, it’s up to your taste. Oh, and one of the best things of the bath (if you play it hard): they organize parties twice a week. So, after all these informations, Széchenyi Thermal Bath is a must, isn’t it?

Finally, it’s important to mention, that exploring the Városliget, the charming park in the middle of Budapest will demand at least a day, but there’s no chance regretting it! You guys will definitely like it, even after a rough night, nay.
