One of the must-visit places in Slovenia is Bohinj, the pearl under the mountains, and with no doubt one of the most beautiful valleys in Slovenia. Many activities are being offered there, and you probably won’t have enough time for all of them. On top of these, the 12th international wild flower festival is coming up. This, for the alpine world unique event, will take place from 25th May to 10th July. For all the nature enthusiasts, and the ones who still need to be convinced how beautiful the nature can be, this event will get to you.
Festival has a rich botanical and cultural program that nicely adds to your experience in case you took some time to visit the arboretums in Slovenia already. On this magnificent botanical event you will be presented with alpine flowers of all kinds, that grow in various environments from meadows to mountains.
There are more than 1000 different plant species growing in the Bohinj region. Some of them are unique for this area and are even named after Bohinj or Triglav. Picking these rare plants would be a pity and it would endanger their existence, so taking a photo should be a perfect substitute that also lasts longer. Conveniently, during the festival some very interesting workshops will be held, among them photography and drawing workshops. Of course, the main topic of the whole festival is alpine botanics, so you can expect many educational and enjoyable events that will bring you this interesting world of botanic closer to you.
As we know, Slovenia is a country known for good local cuisine and within the festival you can attend also culinary workshops. In one of them you can get to know the fascinating world of bees, our national pride, or you can enjoy the tasting of famous Bohinj cheese. The local guides and botanical experts will be happy to share their knowledge about botanic, natural and cultural heritage of the Bohinj region.
The surroundings are very inviting for all kinds of activities here in Bohinj, and there are plenty to choose from. As a part of festival there is an interesting offer of yoga and relaxation at the lake, one can even attend a lake excursion, and the whole festival will be accompanied with some music as well. You can expect interesting concerts and other cultural evenings.
If you like hiking, you might even consider climbing the highest Slovenian mountain and a national symbol – the Triglav. This year we are celebrating the 240th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Triglav. In any case, visiting Bohinj is worth your time and I believe you will for sure enjoy the International wild flower festival.
