(Winter) Wonderland Lisbon

Between the months of November and January, the streets of Lisbon light up with Christmas decorations, filling the city with whimsical light and festivity. And in no other places is it more apparent than in the Christmas Fairs that sprout all over! Many of these fairs are small and last just until Christmas, but one of them dwarfs them all, the Wonderland Lisbon fair!

This light extravaganza is located in Parque Eduardo VII, right next to the Marquês de Pombal square. The entertainment is dedicated to everybody, from families to couples and even for that one person rushing to buy presents before Christmas Eve.

It has two rows of small shops (with many differing products) and restaurants/snack bars. The attractions include a large ferris wheel, an ice-skating ring and a sliding ramp, Santa's House for the children and a stage for live performances (I saw a stunning choir concert the last time I was there).

If the crowds on the shops are too much for you, you can just sit on the grass in the middle of this huge garden and enjoy the light show with a bit more space!

So, in conclusion, whenever in Lisbon for the holidays be sure to check out this delightful winter Wonderland sitting on top of the downtown area. Santa will appreciate it!
