Switzerland is known for its mountains (Alps in the south, Jura in the northwest) but it also has a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes. Switzerland is renowned over the world for downhill skiing, and the country is also great for many other outdoor activities, including hiking and mountain biking. Mountain climbing, from easy to very hard, can also be found in Switzerland, and there is hardly another place with a longer tradition for this. Some routes, like the North face of the Eiger, have become near-mythical due to the hardships, sacrifice and even deaths suffered by the first people to climb them. And because of the breathtaking views, travelling from one place to another by car, bus, train or bike along alpine roads and railroads is often an experience in itself.

Once the core of the mighty Roman Empire, and the cradle of the Renaissance, it is also home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, including high art and monuments. Italy is famous for its delicious cuisine, it's trendy fashions, luxury sports cars and motorcycles, diverse regional cultures and dialects, as well as for its various sceneries from the seas to the Alps and Apennines, all reasons why it got nickcoded Il Bel Paese (the Beautiful Country). One of the great things about Italy is that its long thin shape means that when you get fed up with sightseeing you are often a relatively short distance from a beach. In many of the more popular areas, large sections of beach are reserved as paid beaches. Italy is full of differents cultures you can see: Etruscan Italy, The Greek influence, Roman ruins, Christian Italy, The Byzantine cities and The Renaissance.

Thanks to its history, both French and Italian are official languages here. It is a land of high mountains, with a range that includes some of the highest Alpine peaks, including Mont Blanc at more than 4,800 metres. Its ski resort at Courmayeur is one of the best loved in Europe. The region holds particular appeal for travellers in search of nature and authenticity.

The canton is home to the artificial Lake of Gruyère. The Vanil Noir is the highest peak of the canton. The canton has a strong cultural heritage such as the Saint-Nicolas cathedral of Fribourg, the castle of Gruyères, the castle of Bulle, the museum of art and history of Fribourg and the Roman museum in the Vallon. There are also some really nice trails to hike or bike across the canton, during the summer as well as through the winter cold days.

As the name suggests, this is a large region of eastern France, fronting the entire border with Germany and Luxembourg, and significant portions of the Belgian and Swiss borders, too. It is unsurprising that everything of the region's culture, from the architecture and languages, to the food and wine, is a pleasing mix of Gallic and Germanic. Visitors come to explore the battlefields of the Ardennes and Verdun, to quaff glasses of champagne, gobble up quiche and sauerkraut, hike or bike the Vosges, or to glide lazily down the mighty Rhine. Devotees of gastronomy know it for its famous 'Wine Route' and come to taste the famous Rieslings and Gewürztraminers, but it is also renowned for its sauerkraut, sausages and other dishes that are reminiscent of the neighbouring Germany. The region is also renowned for an other  gastronomy speciality, the leading product of course being none other than the famous champagne, synonym of luxury and festivities the world over. Travellers seek out the region to amble through its small medieval towns, go walking along its plains interspersed with forests and valleys, or take a tasting tour of its legendary champagnes.

The canton is home to the famous lake, the Neuchâtel Lake. The canton is known for its typical houses and villages, its many vineyards, its university and the medieval city. Neuchâtel lakeshores is one of the Watch Valley gems, a genuine paradise on earth, with a dolce vita atmosphere.

It’s one of the smallest cantons in Switzerland. Basel is the main city and it’s the third most populous city in the country. The city is mostly known for its international renowned museums such as Kunstmuseum, Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig, Augusta Raurica Roman open-air museum and Historical Museum Basel. There are many landmarks to visit in the city such as the old town, Notre-Dame, Rathaus and the zoo. Besides the main city, the canton is home to many heavy forests.

Lausanne is the main city of the canton. The south east of the canton is very mountainous, with highest peak the Diablerets massif. The canton is home to several popular skiing destinations such as the Villars, Les Diablerets and Leysin. There are many places of interest such as the castle of Chillon, the GoldenPass Line, the Olympic museum, the Léman Lake, the cathedral of Lausanne and the Palace of the Rumine, that await every tousist to be explored.
