Hamburg is one of the greenest cities in Europe. Besides the many trees within the city and streets, there are loads of beautiful parks to enjoy nature. The park fiction though is not necessarily one of those parks showing off luscious green grass and tranquility: quite the opposite. It’s industrial, rough and edgy – with a view on the harbor and urban vibes. But that‘s exactly what makes it so unique and popular among locals. It shows off the authenticity of Hamburg and is a perfect hot spot for enjoying a nice evening with your friends, have some beers and enjoy the sunset. Come here in the afternoon to experience the real flair of this nordic city and spend some time Hamburg‘s coolest park: Park Fiction.
Instead of laying on a wide field of grass, you sit on concrete or a small lawn shaped like a flying carpet. Instead of being surrounded by trees, there are a few colorful palm trees made of steel as some sort of ironic art installation. Instead of overlooking flowers and butterflies, you see tower cranes and big containerships passing by the harbor. Instead of hearing birds twittering, you hear the seagulls screaming. And instead of doing a barbecue and drink lemonade, you’re eating a kebap from a Turkish bistro and drink a beer from the kiosk next door. Reading this description might make you wonder: "why would I even consider going to a park that sounds so weird?". Here’s why: you shouldn’t think of park fiction as a "park," but instead as a meeting point to hang out and meet interesting people. It’s one of those places to be, those hidden gems and insider tips, where you actually experience a city in its raw state. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find students, artists and anyone who prefers subcultural communities over high-class societies. Let’s say park fiction is the underdog of parks in Ha[mburg](https://www.livetheworld.com/post/kammeramtstuben-a-street-with-hanseatic-tradition-dy8v).
When you type park fiction on your Google Maps, you might not find it, since it’s the unofficial name that established over time through word of mouth. The official name is Antonipark, and it’s located right between the famous red-light district Reeperbahn, aka Kiez, and the iconic fishmarket by the port. The park consists of several islands, which were co-designed by the residents as an artist and neighborhood initiative. The result was the quirky concept including ideas like the "pirate fountain" and the already mentioned "flying carpet" and "steel palms." So you could say, park fiction is more like an art project, only shaped like a park. And that’s what makes it so incredibly cool.
