Moscow River (Moskva-Reka) is the main river in the Russian capital city. In the old days, it protected the city from the fires and enemies, it fed people and helped them to transport goods. The river even gave its name to the city. Nowadays, the Moscow River twisting through the city connects the sightseeing gems located on its shores as a thread. Taking a boat tour along the Moscow River, you can enjoy glorious views and take the best photos of Moscow from a boat.

The oldest place in Moscow

People have been living near the Moscow River for centuries, so on its banks, you can see the old churches and monasteries. The oldest and the most important place in the city is the Kremlin. Moscow started here as a small village on the Borovitsky Hill. Nowadays, the Kremlin is Moscow political, cultural and spiritual centre. From a boat, you can see a picturesque panorama of Kremlin – its red crenellated walls, decorated towers and golden and silver domes of the churches that rise above the river like a crown.

The first Moscow skyscrapers

In 1947, Moscow celebrated the 800th anniversary, and it was decided to build eight high and beautiful buildings with spires as a gift to the city, which were laid on the 7th of September 1947. Only seven of them were built, and they changed the silhouette of the city. They were first Moscow skyscrapers. Sometimes, they are called ‘seven sisters’. From a boat, you can see four of them.

In the past, Russian people preferred to travel by rivers, not by roads. It was the easiest way to get from one place to another. A boat tour along the Moscow River is the easiest way to see many landmarks and take the best photos of Moscow. Buying the Hop On Hop Off Boat ticket, you can not only admire interesting places but also easily visit them in one day.
